BANGKOK, Feb. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- TUV Rheinland Thailand is boosting its service offering in Thailand with the opening of a brand new energy efficiency laboratory. The main focus of the new facility will be testing electrical products, such as air conditioners and refrigerators to ensure that they meet international energy efficiency standards.

The laboratory, which is located in the Ladkrabang Industrial Estate, covers 349 square meters of floor space. It has been accredited by The National Accreditation Council of Thailand (NAC).

"Thailand has always been an important market for TUV Rheinland and the new energy efficiency lab is the fifth laboratory we have opened in Thailand. It will play a significant role in supporting Thailand's 20-Year Efficiency Development Plan, which aims to reduce energy consumption by 25% through the rigorous testing of electrical products," said Stefan Heuer, Managing Director, TUV Rheinland Thailand.

Thailand has enjoyed substantial success in the management of its energy sector. This has been largely driven by the Thai Government's implementation of a detailed plan to guide the country on a journey to become an "energy sufficiency society."

"We believe that this will be a period of growth for energy efficiency projects and we can offer our expertise in this area, hence we invest in a new energy efficiency lab to service this sector," said Heuer.

As part of TUV Rheinland's global strategy for 2016-2020, the organization intends to continue to expand its network in over 69 countries and invest in other potential markets. The goal is to simultaneously support customers and make the TUV Rheinland name synonymous with laboratory best practice.

Established in 1991, TUV Rheinland Thailand has a strong and steadily growing customer base. It currently has four other laboratories in addition to the new energy efficiency laboratory. They include automotive component testing, hardlines (mainly for testing of the safety of furniture and baby furniture), softlines (quality and safety testing for toys, jewelry, leather, garments and plastic packaging) and electrical safety (testing of home appliances).

"TUV Rheinland's expansion in Thailand has been fueled by the country's robust manufacturing base and the presence of many multinational companies. Thailand is also one of the biggest economies in Southeast Asia, which, along with the ease and lower cost of doing business in the country, has been a key factor in TUV Rheinland's success," said Heuer.
