Painless Non-surgical Hemorrhoidal Treatment Available in Hong Kong

2017-03-15 20:10 2580

HONG KONG, March 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dragon Jade International Limited today announced it offers a safe, non-surgical electrotherapy treatment for hemorrhoidal disease at the company's clinic in Hong Kong.

The procedure, which has been used by doctors to treat over 160,000 hemorrhoid patients across the globe, is a quick, effective and painless alternative to hemorrhoid surgery and other treatment modalities for hemorrhoid disease. During the electrotherapy process, a tiny electrical current is applied to the base of hemorrhoid, causing a biochemical reaction breaking down water molecules and creating a high alkaline environment within the hemorrhoid's vascular feeding vessels. This in turn produces a chemical cauterization within these vessels that dissolves the hemorrhoid, which is harmlessly reabsorbed into the body.

Within about 30 minutes, patients typically experience substantial pain relief and can usually resume normal activities shortly afterwards. And, since the procedure is non-invasive and does not require anesthetic, it is safe for nearly all patients including the elderly, postpartum women and patients who have had this or other hemorrhoidal procedures in the past. (The use of electrical current in the treatment may make the procedure inappropriate for patients who are pregnant, wear a pacemaker and/or defibrillator implant, or have a bleeding disorder.)

The procedure is cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S. and the National Institutes for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the U.K.

Hemorrhoids -- bundles of veins in the rectum and/or anus that have swelled up and become enlarged and painful -- are a very common disease and affect both men and women from pre-teen to the aged. According the Hospital Authority Statistical Report 2014-2015, approximately 24,000 people treated in Hong Kong's hospitals were affected by hemorrhoids1.  According to U.S National Institutes of Health, 75% of the world population are affected by hemorrhoids at some point during their lives2. Most traditional hemorrhoidal treatments, however, are largely invasive, resulting in severe pain and sometimes requiring long periods for recovery. Moreover, patients who opt for these treatments but who subsequently experience recurrences of their hemorrhoids often do not respond to additional treatments.

Surgical hemorrhoid treatments such as hemorrhoidectomy and stapled hemorrhoidectomy usually require patients to remain in the hospital many days for recovery. Rubber band ligation, which is performed on an outpatient basis, causes little pain but has a relatively high hemorrhoid recurrence rate. Non-prescription topical medications are available for hemorrhoids, but are widely considered the least effective of treatments for this condition.

The electrotherapy hemorrhoid procedure, however, is considered highly effective, is non-invasive, has virtually no recovery time, and has proven virtually free of complications.
