HANGZHOU, China, May 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hangzhou, a city along the ancient Silk Road, is unveiling its rich cultural heritage to the world at Hangzhou Global Qipao Festival, May 26. Worldwide celebrations will bring China's most iconic style to New York, Madrid, London, Hamburg and Sydney.

The Qipao is a traditional one-piece dress with a body-hugging design that highlights the feminine and confident sides of women. Originating from Nuzhen tribes almost 400 years ago, the Hangzhou-style qipao is based on local landscape and Chinese arts.

This year, Hangzhou Global Qipao Festival will promote the culture of the qipao both online and offline. On May, women of all ages will dress in beautiful qipao dresses to present this icon of their cultural heritage in front of five landmarks in Hangzhou, and the Monument de Miguel de Cervantes in Madrid, Lake Alster in Hamburg, London Tower Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

Five locations in Hangzhou, including West Lake, the Grand Canal, the Longjing tea fields, China national silk museum and Sofitel Hangzhou West Lake Hotel, will stage synchronized qipao fashion demonstrations presented by 1,000 women of all ages who will come from different countries to celebrate the traditional dress.

Hangzhou will interact with the global audience through online channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and Instagram, to introduce them to qipaos and the city. Audiences could also enjoy the game on http://hzglobalqipao.com/ to win a qipao.

"The classic qipao style has inspired numerous designers in East and West; the delicate silk and embroidery convey the charms of traditional Chinese culture from both natural and humanistic perspectives. Hangzhou is known for its supreme silk and craftsmanship, and we would like to take this opportunity to interact with global followers and introduce them to this aspect of our Chinese heritage," said Zhao Hongzhong, deputy director of the Hangzhou Tourism Commission.

Hangzhou Global Qipao Festival is part of "Project F", Hangzhou's latest global tourism campaign after its successful "Modern Marco Polo" campaign in 2013-2014 and the "Hangzhou China Global Tour" in 2015-2016.

Adhering to the theme of "Hangzhou, Living Poetry," the Hangzhou tourism brand will promote the fashion, friendship, fine arts and folk customs of the city through social media channels like Facebook and engage with international tourism markets through "Face to Face: Hangzhou@your service" events.

Project F is also partnering with leading new media companies including TripAdvisor to bring more accurate and efficient information to international travelers.
