CHANGSHA, China, May 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 17, 2017, "Looking Hunan" kicked off with eleven foreign students from Serbia, Croatia and Romania coming together in Hunan to capture the essence of the province in China through a new set of lenses.

Themed "craftsmanship, inheritance and innovation", each young filmmaker is expected to create a 10-minute short film about Hunan's culture, telling a story through their own perspective about the province. For a period of 17 days, these young foreign directors will be making their way throughout the province of Hunan, capturing clips and moments that truly exemplify the feel and culture of the province. The topics for these short films will cover cultural heritages and the feel of the craftsmanship spirit that includes the Huagu Opera, Liuyang Fireworks, Yuelu Academy, Tongguan Kiln and more.

The young filmmaker, Milena Grujic from the University of Belgrade, said, "The schedule is tight but I still feel so excited about all the things happening here. I'm looking forward to exploring Chinese culture more during the filming, especially meeting the subjects of my film."

Changsha, a city where one of the filmmaking routes will take place, is the birthplace of Chu civilization and Xiang Chu culture. This route includes China's four famous landmarks: the Aiwan Pavilion known for love, the Millennium Yuelu Academy that has over 1,000 years of history, "China's First Isle" Orange Isle, and the ancient city of Tianxin Pavilion. Through this route, the young filmmakers can fully experience the colorful culture of Changsha, while digging deeper into the traditional and charming craftsmanship of Hunan.

"Looking Hunan" is a cultural experience program that showcases the enchanting aspects of Hunan, promoting Chinese culture through a new perspective. The program aims to illustrate the contrasting simplicity and glamor, and the antiquity and fashion of Hunan through the unique perspectives of young foreign filmmakers.
