LIVERPOOL, England, Aug. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Graduates from the University of Liverpool's online master's and doctoral degrees, and postgraduate certificate programmes gathered to celebrate their achievements during ceremonies and events in Liverpool between 17 and 21 July 2017. More than 540 graduates from a graduating class of nearly 1,100 students, representing 117 countries, attended the celebrations.

"It is a privilege to recognise the achievements of our online graduates who, along with their families, have travelled to Liverpool to graduate alongside our campus graduates," said the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer. "With their new knowledge and skills, we are confident this new class of graduates will have a positive impact in their workplaces, the organisations they serve and communities around the world."

In addition to attending the campus ceremonies, the graduates, their families and friends, as well as faculty members, were welcomed at the Online Graduates' Recognition Ceremony and Reception at St George's Hall, Liverpool on 20 July. The event also honoured approximately 20 graduates from several online programmes who received Student of the Year Awards, given for outstanding performance throughout the programme, and Dissertation of the Year Awards. It also provided an opportunity for all online graduates to meet and network for the first time with their peers from around the world.

"The opportunity to dialogue with fellow students from all over the world and to learn from their experiences was wonderful. I gained a much better global perspective and learned a great deal during my programme," said Dr Anne Pousette, a Master of Public Health (MPH) graduate and Dissertation of the Year Award winner from Canada.

Designed for working professionals, the University of Liverpool's fully online learning model enables students to earn an advanced academic degree without interrupting their career – from wherever they are based in the world. Students enjoy an engaging, global and highly collaborative learning experience that provides them with the knowledge and skills to achieve immediate professional impact.

Graduation ceremonies are held twice a year at the University of Liverpool and graduates from the online programmes have the option to receive their degree certificate in person.
