MTI is a global conference for those involved in public policy regulation of the auto industry. This year's conference focuses on the status and future of autonomous, or self-driving, vehicles.

The objective of the meeting is to engage international public policy makers in discussions on understanding, creating standards and rules, and regulating autonomous vehicles, as well as sharing best practices in all areas. It provides a place for the exchange of knowledge and cooperation regarding autonomous vehicles among global government representatives and their advisors.

The theme of this year's MobilityTalks is "Freedom and the Automobile." The Conference opens the afternoon on Tuesday, January 23 on Capitol Hill and continues Wednesday, January 24 with a Plenary Session and multiple meetings at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Related conferences and meetings, including the Washington Auto Show Press Day, will take place on Thursday.

"The response last year to MobilityTalks shows this conference meets a huge need among global public policy makers," said O'Donnell. "Regulation for autonomous vehicles is in a nascent stage and MTI allows public policy makers to discuss what, when, where and how the rules that will govern autonomous driving will be written," he continued.

Public policy makers from a dozen or more countries are expected to attend. Last year countries represented included The French Republic, Japan, The Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.  It is anticipated that, among others, new participants will include the Federal Republic of Germany and the People's Republic of China.

Online registration for MobilityTalks International is on the Washington Auto Show website http://www.washingtonautoshow.com/mobilitytalks/

Other meetings related to public policy and the auto industry will take place concurrent with or following MTI, including the SAE International Government and Industry Meeting, The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrations (AAMVA) Autonomous Vehicles Roundtable, Autos 2050, and meetings by the Eno Center for Transportation, the National Science Foundation and the National Safety Council, among others.
