During the event, Imam Nahrawi, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia revealed the importance of youth as agents of change in society. "Therefore, we expect the events to entail a deep commitment of youth in Indonesia. Coming from various ethnic, cultural, educational, as well as religious backgrounds, the young generations can lead national unity to succeed in the 2018 Asian Games, which will take place in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 - September 2. Let's get involved in every way you can," he said.

A theme of "Indonesian National Awakening" and "Welcoming the Asian Games 2018 and Asian Paragames 2018" was chosen as the topic for the speech competition, which was attended by dozens of participants from around 100 schools and youth organizations in Indonesia. For around 15 minutes, all youths, as well as public and Pesantren students from many cities in Indonesia, presented their experiences and real plans to bring about peace and tolerance, starting from areas they live in.

"The competition marks a positive approach of youth-led movements, to educate and promote our nation to the world. If we relate to the 2018 Asian Games, there are also many positive initiatives by youth generations and students, such as an Asian Games' designed Pesantren in West Jakarta. We expect this positive spirit of the 2018 Asian Games can be viral throughout the youth who have access to social media. The precious moment doesn't come twice - we aim to perform as the best host to stand out with all guests coming from various countries of the world," said Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, Deputy Minister of Youth Development.

Kemenpora Supports 50 of Indonesia's Best Students to Publish a Short-Story Book Collection

In the event, the Deputy of Youth Development was also thrilled to introduce the "1 Million Student Writing Program." The program itself was first initiated by Nahdlatul Ulama Student Association (PW IPNU) in Jakarta, a community organization that also participated in the event, back in 2017. Incorporated with the Global Peace Foundation Indonesia, the community has a mission to develop a consistent writing habit among students, through insightful writings of tolerance, peace, and love.

As a new plan of 2018, "1 Million Students Writing Program" will invite up to 50 high schools (SMA) and vocational high schools (SMK) to write up short stories about national and religious tolerance within the community. Apart from receiving awards, the best 50 short stories will be published in a book compilation, entitled #1001 Students to Talk about Tolerance, Peace, and Love.

As the largest country in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has a large youth population. The total number now reaches 62 million people between age 16-30 years or 24% of the Indonesia's total population of 256 million people. "Thus, we encourage youths to enhance the creativity in literature, since writings can be a valuable learning experience for the future generations, as well as to draw global attention to Indonesia," said Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh.

The event series of "Pemuda Bershalawat" also included religious activities, such as shalawat with a talented young shalawat singer, Veve Zulfikar, reciting the Qur'an 30 juz with rote or Khatmil Qur'an bil Ghaib, and Marawis Contest for youth. As a charity contribution, it was also a formal ceremony to launch amil zalcat institution (LAZ) Masjid Al-Muwahiddin Kemenpora, as well as donating to orphans in need.
