Jungheinrich Showcases Hydrostatic Trucks with Multi Pallet Handler

SHANGHAI, July 8 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The centrepiece of the Jungheinrich appearance at drinktec 2009 consists of hydrostatic-drive counterbalanced trucks equipped with multi pallet handler. Featuring a lifting capacity of 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes, these trucks were successfully launched in the market last year and have since developed into a mainstay of logistics processes in the beverage industry.

Jungheinrich will be showcasing its beverage logistics expertise at drinktec 2009, the World Fair for Beverage and Liquid Food Technology, from September 14th to 19th in Munich. At stand no. 329 in Hall A5, visitors will be treated to a product display that features the Jungheinrich type 435s hydrostat with multi pallet handler. In addition, Jungheinrich will be presenting a number of solutions developed especially for the beverage industry.

Apart from the multi pallet handler, which allows for several pallets to be picked up simultaneously, Jungheinrich's presentation will also include traversing forks, which serve as an alternative to telescopic forks or fork carriages with elongated forks. "The key advantage, in particular with regard to elongated forks, consists in the driver being able to extend or retract the traversing forks as required," explains Marek Scheithauer, Head of Product Management and Product Marketing IC Trucks at Jungheinrich, adding that the traversing forks were "more rugged than telescopic forks" and consequently had a longer service life.

Jungheinrich will also be showcasing a diverse range of load pick-up devices and attachments for the beverage industry. Apart from barrel clamps, large-surface clamps and telescopic forks, this also includes fork positioners, which allow for adjusting the gap between the forks -- particularly useful when working with fork lift pockets or loads of varying width.

Beverage industry: Classic application area for hydrostats

The beverage industry distinguishes between three main fields of activity: the cash and carry stores (e.g. beverage shops), wholesalers and bottlers. "Based on their own special requirements, these users have varying requirements for the stackers employed," explains Scheithauer. As far as the bottlers -- e.g. breweries, the bottled water and soft drink industry, etc. -- are concerned, their products are often transported directly form the conveyor belt to the lorry. Stackers with a high lifting capacity contribute to a significant reduction in the number of trucks required, thus guaranteeing high throughput. "Since it is common in the beverage industry to have routinely intensive operations with many changes of direction, this is a classic application area for hydrostats," explains Scheithauer.

An example of this is the Jungheinrich hydrostat VFG 435s presented at drinktec 2009. This truck's hydrostatic driving properties translate into fast and direct acceleration, but also smooth and sleek changes of direction. Since the hydrostatic technology uses only a handful of mechanical components, these trucks are service-friendly and low-maintenance. Due to the use of Volkswagen motors since the original product launch in 2008, a number of special features from the automotive industry now flow into these IC engine driven forklifts from Jungheinrich. These trucks are extremely quiet, consuming considerably less energy and possessing very low emission values.

Jungheinrich: The right truck for any application

The applications profile for beverage wholesalers in contrast ranges from unloading bottlers' lorries and storing goods in block-type, pallet or compartmentalised warehouses to depositing and loading the ordered and order-picked goods onto waiting lorries. "Since this often involves covering long distances," explains Marek Scheithauer, "it also represents a classic case for our IC engine driven stackers -- whether they are hydrostats or hydrodynamic-drive forklifts. Jungheinrich has the right truck for any application!"

This is also true for applications in the cash and carry beverage shops -- the so-called "corner stores". Since these businesses generally involve smaller properties with in part extremely narrow aisles, the need here is generally for smaller industrial trucks, for example low-platform or pedestrian stackers. Examples of these include the Jungheinrich EJE 1 and 2-range low-platform trucks. The EMC 110 truck, unveiled to the public in spring 2009, is also highly suited to transporting goods up to a total weight of 1,000 kilogrammes. This truck, which stacks goods up to a maximum height of two metres, is ideal for operating in narrow spaces, thanks to its compact size, high performance and characteristic user friendliness.

For intensive applications: Energy-efficient engines with high residual lifting capacity

Given the extremely high throughput in the beverage industry, the minimum requirements for a stacker are already extremely high. Further complicating the picture is a mixture of long and short distances travelled as well as rapid reversing during loading and offloading, making for a highly intensive application. The Jungheinrich counterbalanced trucks deployed in the beverage industry are equipped with energy-efficient, extremely quiet motors, which add to the operator's ergonomic experience. These trucks have high residual lifting capacities and are exceedingly nimble in reversing operations (if outfitted with hydrostatic drive).

Individually adjustable operator programmes, easy and convenient operation and an ergonomically designed working place with excellent visibility of the fork tips and above help reduce the heavy burden on operators, for whom shifts of up to ten hours are common during the heavy season. A raft of features, including Jungheinrich Curve Control, Drive Control and Lift Control, guarantee the safe transport of goods. Especially low energy and consumption costs as well as long service intervals further contribute to the savings for users of Jungheinrich stackers in the beverage industry.

Jungheinrich ranks among the world's leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is a logistics service provider with manufacturing operations, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, shelving systems, services and consulting covering the entire field of intralogistics. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
