China-ASEAN Mayors' Forum 2018 held in Nanning

NANNING, China, Sept. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- As gx.cri.cn reports, China-ASEAN Mayors' Forum 2018 opened in Nanning on September 8, bringing together some 300 guests from ASEAN and domestic cities to discuss city cooperation between China and ASEAN countries. The forum was hosted by the China Association of Mayors, the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the Nanning Municipal People's Government, with the theme "Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and Making Innovation upon the Urban Cooperation between China and ASEAN Countries".

The forum focused on four subjects: urban construction and financial service, urban development and technology innovation, city connectivity and transportation logistics industry cooperation, and urban cross-border cooperation innovation. Through multi-channel, multi-level and multi-field exchanges, the attendees discussed topics including the policy communication, facilities connection, unblocked trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds between Chinese cities and ASEAN cities, and made suggestions on building a closer community of shared future for China and ASEAN.

At the forum, Chen Wu, Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, called for efforts to advance urban cooperation innovation, jointly build digital Silk Road cities, and promote the building of a new China-ASEAN city partnership and a community of shared future for China and ASEAN.

As a high-level forum within the framework system of China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), the forum was included in the overall plan of CAEXPO and submitted to the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for approval every year.

With focus on Guangxi's role in the Belt and Road, the forum aims to build an exchange, cooperation and innovative development platform for cities and urban managers in China and ASEAN, serve the national Belt and Road Initiative, and facilitate the participation of ASEAN and domestic cities in Belt and Road construction.

Since its inauguration in 2015, the forum has been held successfully three times, with attendees from nearly 100 cities in over 20 Chinese provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, as well as over 100 cities in 9 ASEAN countries. It has grown in influence year by year, gradually shown its role in politics, economy, culture and other fields, and earned wide praise.
