The Code is a self-regulation framework recently announced in June this year, and sets out principles to ensure that content offered on participating platforms is authentic, free from hate speech, hate crimes, pornography, and other forms of inappropriate content. Content providers also pledge to provide consumer control features to let users make appropriate viewing choices for themselves and their families. The code not only serves to provide VOD platforms a standard to hold themselves to, it also helps distinguish legitimate services from pirate sites.

Commenting on DOONEE's move to sign this commitment, Joe Suteestarpon, Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are delighted to join other illustrious brands in this joint commitment to ensure that our service offers the kind of content that puts viewer wellbeing at the heart. We share this mutual objective to give viewers the ability to make content viewing choices that are suitable for them and their families."

The signing was announced on the sidelines of the International Symposium on Converging Technologies & Disruptive Communications, themed "Moving Forward," which was hosted by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission ("NBTC") of Thailand.

Witnessing the signing, Dr. Thawatchai Jittrapanun, a commissioner with NBTC, said, "We welcome this announcement as a sign of growing maturity in the SVOD industry space. We want to encourage the industry's growth to benefit more Thais, especially as Thailand prepares itself for the Fourth Industrial Revolution."

Louis Boswell, CEO of the Asia Video Industry Association ("AVIA"), said, "The idea has come full circle with today's announcement by DOONEE. In fact, the idea of a self-regulation framework was first discussed here in Bangkok back in September 2017 at the ASEAN Telecom Regulators Council dialogue, which brought together both regulators as well as industry players to create pan-ASEAN solutions. We are glad to see the momentum of adoption across the region and look forward to seeing more companies join us in this commitment."
