The 12th Chengdu Motor Show to Kick off in September

CHENGDU, China, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- As the largest and most influential exhibition of its kind in western China, the 12th Chengdu Motor Show (CDMS 2009) will have its grand opening ceremony at the New International Convention & Exposition Center Chengdu Century City on Sept. 19th and last for 7 days. The trade fair has enjoyed extensive social support during its 11 years of growth and is now one of the top auto shows in China. Building on the success of the previous year's show, this year's show will take on a brand new look by occupying a total display area of 90,000 square meters and accommodating some 200 exhibitors as well as 400,000 visitors, a record high in history of CDMS.

Western China Auto Market Bucks the Trend to Grow

Leveraged by preferential national policies, the domestic automobile industry is bucking the trend of economic recession and going steadily upward. This is especially true for the western China market, which has become, in the current tough economic climate, a hotly contested spot for automakers at home and abroad. Stimulated by supportive governmental policies, the western China market is now living up to its full potential and serving as a new engine to drive forward domestic automobile consumption. As the largest consumer market for automobiles in western China, Chengdu has long been known as "the third largest consumer city for private cars" in China. Currently, Chengdu boasts more than 1.8 million registered vehicles, among which private automobiles account for 22.81%, with 500 purchased every single day. The huge number of automobiles has brought immense opportunity to the post-purchase automobile market. To further explore potential room for market development and seize new opportunities, a powerful lineup of industrial leaders will take part in this year's Chengdu Motor Show with their state-of-the-art products and technologies, competing for consumers with their most competitive prices. The trade fair, a bridge and shared platform, is thus expected to help revitalize the domestic automobile market.

International Tycoons and Independent Brands both Actively Involved

Though negatively impacted by the global economic recession, automakers at home and abroad will still be actively involved in this year's Chengdu Motor Show with a great selection of the newest car models. Viewing CDMS as one of the top auto shows in China, a number of exhibitors have invested more in this year's show than they did last year. With the unveiling of an array of new cars, luxury cars, new concept cars, and independent brand cars, CDMS 2009 is going to wow visitors with its infinite charm.

At this year's show, Hall 6 will feature a complete lineup of high-end cars by European, American and Japanese producers, including Benz, Audi, BMW, Acura, Infiniti, Volvo, and Cadillac automobiles. Meanwhile, Hall 7 is going to accommodate a legion of "aristocratic" brands like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Roadster Wiesmann, and Star Custom, which will overwhelm the audience with their luxurious presence as well. Also, CDMS 2009 will witness the debut of a special display of touring cars and converted vehicles, which will feature an alternative form of luxury in the recreational vehicles of Ford, Benz and GMC, and that of the long and converted Hummer, Lincoln and Cadillac vehicles. Audi will set up a show booth that will cover over 1,000 square meters while Benz will occupy a total display area of 1,400 square meters, a growth of 40% vis-a-vis that of last year. The super-luxurious exhibition stands and the newest lineup of auto brands at CDMS 2009 will once again give vivid expression to the great appeal of the western China automobile market. As the "new powers" at the show this year, the newly introduced models of Volvo and Smart, together with Volkswagen's two leading coupes, the Passat CC and the Scirocco, will add exceptional charm to the grand event held in the beautiful city of Chengdu in the coming autumn.

CDMS 2009 is also marked by the independent innovations of domestic automakers. As is stated in the Automobile Industry Restructuring and Revitalization Plan, the Chinese government encourages the development of independent brand automobiles. CDMS 2009 will undoubtedly become an ideal platform for domestic automobile companies to demonstrate their own strength. Leading companies such as Chery, BYD, Great Wall, Geely and Brilliance will occupy the main stands in the exhibition halls to display their new independent brand autos. Domestic companies like Chery and BYD have already booked a 1000-square meter stand each; Brilliance will bring its new concept car, which will become another shining point of the exhibition. The extensive profile of exhibitors represents the booming trend of China's automotive industry.

In addition, CDMS 2009 will also feature Shanghai VW, Faw-VW, Dongfeng Honda, Dongfeng Citroen, Toyota, Nissan and many other mainstream brands. Shanghai VW and Faw-VW both have each booked a more than 1000-square meter exhibition stand. Dongfeng Automobile will for the first time unveil its Dongfeng Honda SR-9 at CDMS while Dongfeng Citroen will display its brand new cars in an 800-square meter show booth. Toyota and Nissan, which attend the Chengdu Motor Show every year, will this time bring a complete lineup of their imported cars to make a high-profile appearance. This is sure to attract the attention of car fans. With the convergence of high-grade auto brands and a high-caliber audience, CDMS 2009 is worth waiting for.

Concurrent Events Sparkle at the Show

To further promote the Chengdu Motor Show and reinforce its regional influence, the organizers specially planned a series of concurrent activities, providing an excellent platform for professionals and visitors to be fully involved in the grand event and taste the auto culture of Chengdu. These concurrent events include: China Automotive Forum, 2009 China (Chengdu) Auto Market General Appraisal Award Ceremony, Pocoer Chengdu Motor Show Theme Photography and on-site test drives. Reporters from industrial magazines, newspapers and websites, among which are Auto Fashion News, CAAC Journal, China SUV Weekly, South Weekend, Auto Moto Sport, Auto Magazine, Auto Business Review, Auto Frontier Observer, Motor Trend, Quattroruote, Auto Life, Automotive Observer, Auto Free, Autocar, Auto Sports, SOHU, SINA and PC auto, will come to provide first-hand coverage of CDMS 2009.
