HKRI Taikoo Hui Achieves LEED Green Building Certification

SHANGHAI, May 30, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- HKRI Taikoo Hui, the landmark mixed-use development in Shanghai has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the American Green Building Council, and received wide acclaim from the public. The complex comprises of one lifestyle shopping mall, two premium Grade A office towers, an underground shopping corridor, two boutique hotels and one serviced residence. Since the early stage of construction, the developer has followed the standards of green development was committed to implementing sustainable development strategies and improving the green quality of shopping and working environment. The two premium Grade A office towers -- HKRI Centre One and HKRI Centre Two, were particularly awarded the Platinum Certification of LEED Building Design and Construction Category (BD+C) Core and Shell Assessment System in June 2018. The Platinum rating is the highest achievable level of LEED certification. Only 5% of LEED projects could be granted Platinum certification in the world.

The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance. Its main purpose is to improve the environment and protect human health. LEED certification is the most recognized and widely used green building certification system worldwide.

In addition, other buildings in the complex have been awarded different LEED certifications:

  • HKRI Taikoo Hui Shopping Mall has been awarded LEED Building Design and Construction (BD+C): Core and Shell (CS) Gold Certification.
  • The Sukhothai Shanghai has been awarded LEED Building Design and Construction Category (BD + C) New Construction and Major Renovations Certified Certification.
  • The Middle House has been awarded LEED Building Design and Construction Category (BD + C) New Construction and Major Renovations Gold Certification.

  • Over 30% of the project development is dedicated to greenery of native species to promote biodiversity while minimizing the water consumption required for irrigation.
  • A triple level air filtration system to minimize airborne pollutants as well as CO2 sensors to ensure sufficient fresh indoor air is received to client's premises.
  • Rainwater collection system for flushing and irrigation.
  • The use of environment-friendly refrigerants, and low VOC materials.
  • High efficiency floor plates creating greater productivity and opportunities for tenants.

Based on these contributions to sustainability, the shopping mall and office towers have attracted attention from a large number of excellent enterprises and well-known brands, and achieved over 95% of opening rate. The Hotels have also received lots of praises within the opening year; both The Sukhothai Shanghai and The Middle House have been awarded world's leading new hotels of 2018, according to the Hotel List of Conde Nast Traveler.
