AECOM Book Launch in Hong Kong: Climate Design by AECOM and Professor Peter Droege

HONG KONG, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- AECOM has launched Climate Design, a book that explores the current paradigm shift towards deep sustainability. It documents how new thinking can convert investments in urban infrastructure, land use, and development into resilient and enduring support systems for greater human prosperity and environmental regeneration.

Alongside AECOM's collaborator Professor Peter Droege, the widely acknowledged expert in the field of renewable and sustainable design, the book is focused on radical solutions to combat climate change, and show how new professional practice is successfully applied.

This book made its public debut at AECOM's exhibit at the Bright Green Forum in Copenhagen in December 2009, an official side event to the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15). Subsequent launches took place in New York in February 2010 and in Sydney in May 2010. AECOM is now thrilled to be holding this official launch in Hong Kong as Asia's world city and business capital, in collaboration with the CSR Asia Summit 2010 Networking Reception on 14th September 2010.

"Uninformed design and planning choices contribute to the climate conundrum in direct ways -- by perpetuating inefficiency and fossil fuel dependence and by missing a myriad of choices that could lower destructive levels of resource consumption and help sustain the resilience of planetary ecosystems," said Professor Droege.

Stephane Asselin (Senior Vice President for Environment, AECOM Asia) said, "The pace of construction and development, particularly in Asia, is transforming the landscape so much that urban areas are increasingly divorced from the natural environment. We need to design not just for aesthetics, but for function."

Climate Design features living projects and the beliefs and ideas of a wide range of professionals from around the world, including Professor Tony Wong, Professor Richard Weller, Jose Mantilla, Lester Partridge, Jason Veale, Cathryn Chatburn, Ichsani Wheeler, James Rosenwax and Jon Shinkfield.

"The best way of dealing with climate change is to embrace the facts and start working on the future now," said Jason Prior (Executive Director, Planning, Design + Development, AECOM Global).
