Average Annual Purchase of Electronics Components Topped US$30 Million in 2006 Expect Growth of 40 Percent in 2007

HONG KONG, June 21 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Forty six percent of mainland China electronics manufacturers prefer to source from mainland China distributors in 2007, according to Global Sources' (Nasdaq: GSOL) Seventh Annual Electronic Components Distributor Survey(http://www.esmchina.com/STATIC/SITE/DISTRIBUTOR_SURVEY_2007.HTM ).

The survey also shows 29 percent of respondents prefer to source components from international distributors.

The annual Electronic Components Distributor Survey aims to give manufacturers and distributors a clear view of the state of the electronic components distribution market. This year's survey received 1,028 valid responses from managers working for electronics manufacturing companies in China.

"Mainland China's electronics supply chain has matured significantly in recent years," said publisher of the report, Mark A. Saunderson. "Mainland China-based manufacturers are now basing their purchasing decisions on supply chain business strategies rather than technical specifications alone.

"They are increasingly confident local distributors can deliver the products and services they have come to expect from international players."

Dr. Michael Liu, General Manager and Major Lee, Content Development Manager of Electronics Supply & Manufacturing-China ( http://www.esmchina.com ) presented the results in Shenzhen.

Leading international and regional component distributors, including Advanced MP Technology, Arrow Asia Pac, Avnet Asia, Excelpoint and WPG attended the presentation.

China Manufacturers Expected to Buy 40 Percent More Components in 2007

The report shows surveyed manufacturers expect to increase their annual component purchases to an average of US$42 million in 2007 -- up 40 percent from 2006.

Saunderson said: "Mainland China's manufacturers are expected to hike 2007 component orders in response to strong demand. Mainland China alone accounted for $551 billion in electronics sales last year, according to Technology Forecasters Inc., and this is expected to reach $674 billion in 2007."

Surveyed mainland China electronics manufacturers also said product quality and company reputation are the top criteria for selecting distributors. Other priorities included price, fast delivery and supply capacity.
