SHANGHAI, Jan. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --

Project Description

On October 25, 2008, the Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC), the world’s tallest urban mixed-use complex, celebrated its grand opening. Located in the very heart of Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai, the SWFC soars to a height of 492m with 101 floors above-ground, and has been officially recognized by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) as the tallest building in the aspects of “Highest Occupied Floor” (474m) and “Height to Top of Roof” (487m).

As Shanghai’s most exciting new landmark, the SWFC covers a building area of 30,000 sq m and a total gross floor area of 381,600 sq m, incorporating cutting-edge office facilities, international standard conference and forum facilities, the world's highest five-star luxury hotel, sophisticated retail shops and restaurants, and a media center providing the latest information from the worlds of finance, culture and the arts. This massive yet streamlined structure is an embodiment of its original design concept of “Vertical Complex City”, which also has convenient access to a remarkable transportation network and urban infrastructure.

Description of the ThyssenKrupp Transportation-system

44 Superior Quality ThyssenKrupp Elevators in SWFC

ThyssenKrupp Elevator has supplied a total of 44 elevators for the SWFC: 15 passenger elevators (including four double-deck elevators), 28 service elevators, and one freight elevator. They provide efficient people’s transportation in this skyscraper, enabling quick access to its various facilities such as hotel, restaurants, forum, offices, shops and parking garages. These elevators represent the company’s business principle: innovative technology, superior quality and customer-oriented mindset, among which the double-deck elevators and panorama elevators are distinctive examples.

Double-deck Elevators: Perfect Demonstration of Innovative, Efficient and Sustainable Technology

The four sets of large-capacity double-deck elevators are indisputably the fastest double-deck elevators in the world, providing comfortable, safe, reliable, and efficient vertical transportation in this world-class complex, and carrying passengers efficiently to the sky lobby (52nd and 53rd) of the office floors at a height of 240 meters. These elevators, each comprising two connected cabs (capacity of 2,000 kg each) that move simultaneously in the same shaft, can reach a top speed of 10 m/s (36 km/h). Compared to conventional elevators, this cutting-edge design saves construction space, doubles transportation capacity, reduces passenger waiting time and saves considerable energy. The quick success in the technology development, equipment manufacture and site installation has been achieved owing to the mobilization and deployment of ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s strong technical capabilities and global resources.

Panorama Elevators: Customized Decoration and Unique Style

ThyssenKrupp Elevator endeavors persistently to meet the customer’s needs in every detail. All its elevators installed in the SWFC present aesthetic appearances that perfectly complement the surrounding atmosphere in the building. The two panorama elevators are the premium embodiment tailored to the unique requirements of the luxury 100 Century Avenue Restaurant (on the 91st to 93rd floors) in the world’s highest hotel, Park Hyatt Shanghai, which occupies the 79th to 93rd floors.

The interior design of the hotel makes use of an eclectic mix of materials including wood, steel, bronze, ceramics and glass to achieve a harmony of contemporary and oriental style, permeating with a reserved luxury and elegance. In line with this classic yet modern conciseness, the two ThyssenKrupp panorama elevators tastefully integrate the hand-made crystal glass wall panels, wooden frames, ceramic floor, and super-high bronze doors with exquisitely ornate ancient Japanese patterns, adding an incredible touch of oriental charm. Furthermore, the crystal glass and fiber lighting belt installed along the panorama elevator shafts also add to the attractive ambience of the restaurant, the world’s highest restaurant.

People-oriented and Environment-friendly Mindset

Through the installed equipment, ThyssenKrupp Elevator has fully exemplified its people-oriented and environment-friendly mindset in this prestigious project. Both the double-deck elevators and all the machine roomless elevators have been designed to save space and reduce energy consumption. Furthermore, numerous elevators installed in the building are equipped with Braille-engraved operation panels, and guests on wheelchairs can easily travel to any level served by swiping a special card.

A Masterpiece of Team Spirit and Global Cooperation

It took just three years for ThyssenKrupp Elevator to plan, manufacture, install and successfully put into operation the vertical transportation systems in such an ultra high skyscraper.  “In addition to our sound technical capability, this project is a result of team spirit and global cooperation,” stated Mr. Peter Walker, CEO of ThyssenKrupp Elevator Asia Pacific, “ThyssenKrupp Elevator incorporated all of its global resources, and turned the company’s pioneering technology into elevator reality.”
