Asia's Largest Offshore Wind Event to be Held in Shanghai, June 15-17

- Take the opportunity to jointly explore the future of offshore wind

- Offshore Wind China 2011 Conference & Exhibition

SHANGHAI, June 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The Offshore Wind China 2011 Conference & Exhibition, Asia's largest and the world's second largest offshore wind event, will be staged with a new look at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre on June 15-17, 2011. Offshore wind leaders both within and outside of China will take an active part in proving the unique charm of China as the country with the most potential for offshore wind power development in the world.

The event is jointly organized by the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association, Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Committee and Shanghai International Exhibition Co., Ltd. Following the success of the previous three sessions, the organizers will join hands again to present a more superior event. Moving to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, which features more advanced facilities, the exhibition will cover an area which doubles that of the last session. The conference will be held in the newly built Shangri-La's Kerry Hotel Pudong, with the number of attendees expected to approach 800.

Global warming has highlighted the need for environmental protection and green economy and the global financial crisis has led to a faster development of emerging industries. The new technology revolution is already a major trend in industrial development worldwide. Against the background, a number of countries have released their sustainable development strategies with a focus on "Green New Deal, Green Economy" to make them at the forefront of green economy in the future. Wind power is now the world's fastest growing energy source, and offshore wind power represents the most advanced wind power generation technology, arousing world-wide interest from governments and investors. More than 100 countries, mainly in Europe, Asia and North America, have started wind power development. The UK, a country boasting the fastest growing offshore wind power, reported newly added wind power installed capacity of 306 MW, making its combined capacity at 894MW. Its offshore wind power installed capacity exceeded 1 GW in 2010, while China's newly added capacity stood at only 63 MW. China's offshore wind power sector will be on the fast growth track over the next five years, and development of wind power projects with higher capacity have been under way, which will lead to faster growth of the sector as well as technology improvement. Governments and companies both within and outside of China have paid high attention to the Offshore Wind China 2011 Conference & Exhibition, a platform for in-time communications and exchanges before the takeoff of the offshore wind power market. Given continuous innovations in information sharing, market experience and research and development, attendees will discuss a variety of challenges concerning wind power development during the event and work out feasible solutions, facilitating the linkage between developers and component manufacturers as well as developers and grid connection.

The Offshore Wind China 2011 Conference & Exhibition has four highlights as follows:

Highlight One: Active engagement of the world's wind power giants

Wind power equipment manufacturers will work with their supporting suppliers to create an offshore wind power ecosystem. Major wind power equipment makers, including Sinovel Wind Group, Vestas, Siemens, Shanghai Electric, China Guodian United Power Technology Company, HE-GE Wind Energy (Jiangsu), CSIC (Chongqing) Haizhuang Windpower Equipment, Xiangtan Electric Manufacturing Group and Shandong Changxing Group, as well as Goldwind, Gamesa, Zhejiang Windey, Mingyang Electric, AREVA and Repower, will attend the exhibition. The event is expected to attract 800 attendees, including 135 speakers, and will include 15 special sessions, including a developer forum, an introduction about experience of offshore wind power manufacturers both within and outside of China, a session with exclusive participation from wind power equipment manufacturers, and other sessions about blades and materials, offshore construction, bearing and gears, offshore anti-corrosion, certification, power transport and distribution, as well as investment and financing.

Highlight Two: Strong support from responsible authorities

The exhibition has received strong support from and will see active participation by responsible Chinese and foreign government authorities, including national-level National Energy Administration, Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association and Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Committee, as well as regional-level Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and the Shanghai Economy and Information Technology Commission. In addition, representatives from development and reform commissions and energy bureaus of China's coastal provinces, including Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong province, as well as Innovation Norway, Danish Wind Energy Group China, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, the Consulate General of the United States Shanghai, German Industry and Commerce, UK Trade & Investment and Scottish Development International, will be present at the exhibition.

Highlight Three: International level achieving a new height

The offshore wind developed countries have attached great importance to the event by the participation of national pavilions from Norway, Denmark and Germany among other foreign countries. They will present the latest technologies and developments in offshore wind together with Chinese enterprises. The numerous speakers including governmental officials, enterprise leaders, specialists and scholars will gather again in Shanghai to discuss the world's most advanced offshore wind technologies. The event will witness a higher international level with the overseas percentage of speakers and delegates exceeding 40%.

Highlight Four: Trading platform function further improved

As a professional platform for communication and cooperation, this year's event will further develop its trading function. Sourcing teams from Sinovel, Vestas and Shanghai Electric will conduct trade meetings for the participating wind turbine manufacturers and components suppliers during the event, which will provide a face-to-face and real-life experience. This year's event also attracts attention from multiple upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain as well as relative industry associations. Shanghai Electrical Industry Association, Shanghai Electric Power Trade Association, Shanghai Lubricant Trade Association and Cable-wire Industries Association of Shanghai will organize professional visitor groups to attend the event for exchanges, adding to the trading function of this event.

The organizers hope that Offshore Wind China 2011 will grow into a foreseeing, technology-focused trade event in the offshore wind industry. The combination of exhibition and conference will help companies who either have entered the market or are thinking of entering to find their breakthrough points at this communication, cooperation and trading platform.
