DCCI Group-Buying Survey Report: Meituan.com Receiving Highest Customer Satisfaction

BEIJING, August 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Meituan.com topped the list of Chinese group-buying sites in terms of customer satisfaction on group buying services and after-sales services, and became a group-buying site with highest customer satisfaction scores, according to the Survey Report on China's Online Group-Buying Consumers for H1 2011 recently released by the Data Center of the China Internet (DCCI).

The report shows that 61 per cent of Internet users have participated in group buying activities, and only 4 per cent have never heard about it, signaling that this new form of consumption is well popular among users and is growing rapidly. Those who have been involved in group-buying believed that the sites with strong brand awareness, good will and product quality guaranteed are preferred. Meituan.com has become the first choice of users as the site takes the lead in group-buying services and after-sale services, among other indicators.

According to sources, the group buying website meituan.com took the lead in introducing a series of campaigns to safeguard consumers' rights and interests across the industry. For example, the website will refund money to consumers unconditionally if they do not make any consumption within seven days; it will pay the bills which consumers are dissatisfied with; consumers can gain refunds with only one key click if they do not make consumption in the allotted time. In many cases, meituan.com has been the first to introduce campaigns, proving that it is leading the development of the Chinese group buying sector.

Meituan.com CEO Wang Xing revealed that more than 70 percent of its new users join through recommendations by its existing users. Today, with rapid expansions of group buying websites, the website seems to be a "maverick": it does not advertise or manage in a way to expand businesses rapidly, but manages in such a way to provide better services. In order to do that, the website made lots of aggressive explorations, including the effort to introduce group buying campaigns for such featured products as fresh flowers and sphygmomanometers on nearly one hundred website branches during Mother's Day. The effort not only enriched the group-buying product categories, but also moved consumers.

Therefore, meituan.com is highly recognized by consumers and has recorded a series of sales results in the group buying sector. For instance, the Shanweige sauced duck tongue introduced by the site attracted 190,000 persons, the biggest population in single item group buying; the Macao Doulao group buying program brought sales of 1.94 million yuan ($303,700) for the restaurant, creating a group buying sales record in the catering industry; and a cake group buying project launched by the site in collaboration with Croissants de France across Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hangzhou also witnessed sales of 1.14 million yuan ($178,400), the highest among dessert group buying activities in China.

Additionally, the China Group Buying Statistics Report published by tuan800.com in June showed that meituan.com also topped the list in terms of overall strength, and is currently a group buying site with the greatest overall strength in China.
