HONG KONG, Dec. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) swept the board at the IR Magazine Greater China Awards held in Hong Kong yesterday, picking up seven awards in total.
The record haul by the Taiwanese semiconductor maker, the most by a single company since IR magazine began awarding the leading IR practices in the region, includes the grand prix for the best overall IR in Greater China, the best IR by a Taiwanese company and individual awards for best IR officer in Taiwan (Elizabeth Sun) and best IR by a CFO in Taiwan (Lora Ho).
Coming into the awards, TSMC and fellow Taiwanese company HTC featured on the highest number of short lists, with eight apiece. HTC went on to win one award at the event, for best IR by a CEO, Peter Chou. In doing so, the head of the smartphone manufacturer beat the CEO of TSMC Morris Chang into second place -- making it the one award out of eight TSMC did not go on to win.
Anta Sports was the other big winner on the day, winning five awards in total. The Chinese sportswear brand, a newcomer to the IR Magazine Awards, took home the grand prix for small or mid-cap companies as well as best investor relations officer in China for head of IR Claudia Lo.
Neil Stewart, host of the event and editor-at-large of IR magazine, was first to congratulate TSMC for its stellar IR efforts this year. "TSMC has been a stalwart in the awards for as long as I can remember," he says. "Winning the grand prix this year, for the first time since the awards covered all of Greater China, really is the icing on the cake. Elizabeth Sun truly is a leading light in Asian IR."
TSMC, HTC and Anta Sports also feature prominently in IR magazine's inaugural Asia Top 50. The new ranking is based on all the companies covered in the research for IR magazine's Asian awards events in Greater China and South East Asia. The Asia Top 50 will be officially revealed when the Investor Perception Study, Asia 2011/2012 is published. This extensive report of investor relations in Asia documents all the awards and rankings this year and includes in-depth profiles of the 50 leading companies in the region.
More than 200 people attended the awards luncheon at the Conrad Hong Kong hotel yesterday. The gala event was held in conjunction with an all-day conference where IR professionals and expert speakers gathered for seven sessions focusing on best practice investor relations. Robert Young, executive director of Yip's Chemical, opened the conference with his keynote address.
The event was hosted in association with the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association, and was co-sponsored by Arkadin IR Events, BNY Mellon Depositary Receipts, Brunswick, FTI Consulting, Hill & Knowlton, Ipreo, Jefferies, NASDAQ OMX, Nomura, Orient Capital, PR Newswire Asia and the Wall Street Journal Asia.
