- The first domestic construction company to make inroads into the water/environment market in Mexico
- A project for technical assistance between South Korea and Mexico, placed by the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute
SEOUL, South Korea, May 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 9 (Seoul time), POSCO Engineering & Construction (Vice President, Jeong Donghwa) announced its entrance into the water/environment market in Mexico through the establishment of a master plan for improvement of sewerage system in Mexico.
Promoted as part of the ongoing technical assistance between South Korea and Mexico, this project was placed by Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute and carried out by POSCO Engineering & Construction Consortium.
POSCO E&C Consortium formed a delegation in association with the Ministry of Environment and Korea Environmental Industry and the Technology Institute and held a briefing session on "a master plan for improvement of sewerage system" at "Korea-Mexico conference on assistance for sewerage system" on May 8 (local time) in Mexico City.
Starting with the briefing session, POSCO E&C Consortium will track the current condition and problems of the sewerage system in Mexico and propose a way to treat and reuse sewage in consideration of the regional characteristics of Mexico. Based on the results of this, it will then establish a master plan to improve the sewerage system in Mexico State and Veracruz by April, 2014.
Mexico currently has a high level of dependence on underground water and a low rate of sewage treatment, with sporadic water shortages, meaning the country as a whole urgently requires systematic water resource management.
"We expect that the national prestige will be raised to the next level with establishment of a master plan for sewerage system suited for the local conditions in Mexico and environment-related technical support from POSCO E&C," said POSCO E&C Director Jeong Giyun.
"With this project, we expect to build an organized sewerage management system in Mexico and thus establish a master plan for the sewerage system, which can then be a role model for neighboring countries," said Oscar Hernandez Lopez, Deputy Director of Federal Water Resources Administration, Water and Sewerage Improvement Department.
Indeed, POSCO E&C expects to strengthen its foothold in the environment markets across Central and South America with the establishment of a master plan for sewerage system improvement in Mexico, further to the master plan project for sewerage system improvement in Peru generated in April last year.
