-- Jupiter Independence technology addresses increasing global need for sustainable and uninterruptible power supply

LONDON, May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the fuel cell and electrolyser system market, Frost & Sullivan recognises FutureE Fuel Cell Solutions GmbH with the 2013 Europe Technology Innovation Award for its outstanding Jupiter Independence technology.

"Jupiter Independence technology is an all-round energy solution intended to support the much awaited hydrogen economy," noted Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Avimanyu Basu. "With this innovative technology solution, FutureE Fuel Cell Solutions GmbH successfully addresses the energy industry's critical need of an economically viable, sustainable and reliable power solution."

The technology successfully encapsulates harvesting, storage and supply of sustainable electricity in the form of a fuel cell system, which includes an electrolyser. The solution contains the necessary storage facility for hydrogen, which is generated by electrolyzing water with the help of energy from the grid or using renewable resources. The hydrogen is again used to generate clean electricity, eliminating the need for expensive batteries.

The technology is highly flexible. It includes a central controller that may be modified to handle different power ratings, hydrogen supply and storage combinations.

"It effectively combines all the components required for a comprehensive solution for back-up power equipment, UPS, and off-grid energy technologies," remarked Basu. "The system also acts as a stand-alone power solution for several industries, particularly telecommunications, as well as housing estates and industrial developments in rural areas or places where the grid is weak and prone to power failure."

The technology features high efficiency and rapid reaction time, ensuring functional reliability. The use of hydrogen as the main feed for generating electricity means that the process is clean and sustainable. This approach also eliminates the need for complicated fuel logistics and large battery banks, while ensuring steady power supply for extended runtimes.

Other advantages of the Jupiter Independence technology include ease of installation and maintenance. A modular design allows for customisation and use across a wide application range.

"The modularity eliminates the difficulties with installation such as topography of the installation site," stated Basu. "Also, the capacity of the system can be adjusted to suit various demands, which makes it highly flexible. The production of hydrogen on demand ensures supreme versatility which makes the system attractive even for consumers from rural sites with off-grid base stations."

"We are very pleased to receive this year's Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award, which rewards our corporate strategy and our strive for technological excellence in the best possible way," says Mark-Uwe Osswald, founder and Managing Director of FutureE. "In the face of an increasing energy demand on one side and a decreasing stability of the power network in many markets on the other side, both the private and public sector are in a growing need of solutions for a clean and reliable power supply. Fuel cell systems have already proven to be the best choice in many cases. Therefore we confirm our commitment to developing the best possible solutions for the specific needs and challenges of our clients around the globe."

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated excellence in the uniqueness of its technology and relevance of this innovation to industry. The technology is also commended for the impact it has on new products/applications, on functionality and on customer value.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development.
