  • The "Coty Supply Chain Defining Moment" Project Helped Transform Its Global Supply Network

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Coty Inc., an emerging leader in beauty, has been honored with the 2013 Manufacturing Leadership 100 (ML100) Global Value Chain Award for its "Coty Supply Chain Defining Moment" initiative. The innovative project transformed the company's supply chain, allowing it to achieve operational excellence.

In the highly competitive beauty industry, Coty has made its mark with a company culture that emphasizes innovation and entrepreneurship. At Coty, the focus on constant improvement extends to all aspects of its business, including supply chain, an area that isn't often associated with innovation. The company embarked on an improvement program in 2009 that aimed to raise the quality, cost, cash flow, service and safety of its supply chain.

Coty identified specific actions to help create a sustainable advantage in terms of complexity, cost, capacity utilization, supply chain cycle time, inventory levels and quality. The program—executed in three stages—initially focused on laying the foundation for a reliable, agile and integrated supply chain. Using the principles of lean supply chain networks, demand-driven planning and flexible logistics networks, the improved supply chain has become an advantage for Coty.

In recognition of the significant returns from the project, Coty is the worthy recipient of the 2013 ML100 Global Value Chain Award.

"The transformation of our global supply chain and its improved performance is an achievement which we at Coty are very proud, and that is only made possible with the collaboration of every Coty employee," said Darryl McCall, executive vice president, operations, Coty Inc. "And we are truly grateful to the Manufacturing Leadership Community for this valued recognition of our efforts."

"Coty was able to turn its global supply chain from a liability to an advantage," said Jeff Moad, research director, Manufacturing Leadership Community. "Along the way, the company transformed the culture of its supply chain organization to one that is intensely customer-focused and characterized by courageous leadership "

Each year, the Manufacturing Leadership Community, the global community for manufacturing leadership and producer of the Manufacturing Leadership Summit and Awards program, presents this award to companies that have undertaken efforts to revamp and optimize supply chain and related processes, with an eye toward speeding to market products that deliver maximum value to customers. Winners in this category will have rethought and reengineered how they source, produce, and deliver products to customers in dynamic global markets.
