HKICS Appoints Chief Executive

HONG KONG, May 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Council of HKICS is pleased to announce the appointment of Samantha Suen FCIS FCS as Chief Executive to oversee the Institute's Secretariat. Ms Suen, whose appointment begins on 1 July 2013, is a senior Fellow of the HKICS, with which she has a long association, and has extensive experience as a Chartered Secretary. The Council of HKICS is confident that Ms Suen will contribute positively to ensuring that the highest level of services possible continue to be provided to members and students, as well as will help enhance the profession of Chartered Secretary as governance professionals.

Biography of Samantha Suen

Samantha has over 30 years of experience in the corporate secretarial field. After graduating from The Hong Kong Polytechnic (currently 'The Hong Kong Polytechnic University') with a Higher Diploma in Company Secretaryship and Administration, Samantha commenced her career as a secretarial assistant in the Corporate Secretarial Department of Deloitte Haskins+Sells (currently 'Deloitte'). Thereafter, she worked in the corporate secretarial department of a law firm and an international accounting firm and as the Legal Affairs Manager at Philips Hong Kong Limited. In 1993, Samantha joined KPMG as a Manager in their Corporate Secretarial Department and was promoted to Principal in 1997 where she worked until 2003. In 2003, Samantha became a Managing Director of KCS Limited. She left the company in 2007 to pursue her other interests.

Samantha has a very long association with the HKICS. She became an Associate in 1982 and a Fellow in 1998. Throughout the years, in addition to being a Council member, Executive Committee member, Honourary Treasurer, a member of the Technical Committee, Membership Committee, Nomination Committee, Advisory Board, and Vice-Chairman of the China Affairs Committee, Samantha was elected President of HKICS in 2003. She was also the Hong Kong Division's International Representative on the ICSA International Council in that same year. Later, Samantha established the Professional Services Panel and was Chairman of this Panel for 3 years and a member for 2 years thereafter.

Samantha was a member of the Sub-Committee responsible for reviewing Part XI of the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance. She has also served on the Companies Registry Customer Liaison Group, IRD Users' Committee and Official Receiver's Office Services Advisory Committee.

Samantha also holds a Master of Business Administration from Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University and School of Business and Management of Hong Kong University of Science & Technology.
