Standing tall at 32ft 3in, the Capsule Vending Machine is the perfect marriage of creativity and customer engagement.
Standing tall at 32ft 3in, the Capsule Vending Machine is the perfect marriage of creativity and customer engagement.

For those who grew up in Asia, looking back, one of the most familiar items from their childhood days is the capsule vending machine. This iconic machine can be found in many neighbourhood grocery stores and all that is needed is twenty cents to retrieve a capsule with a surprise toy in it.

With this inspiration to bring the past to the present, Berjaya Times Square decided that the best way to share its sentiments with shoppers is to relive their childhood experience with them and to show its appreciation to shoppers by providing an experience they will not get in any other parts of the world.

Located at Ground Floor Central, the largest capsule vending machine was meticulously planned and crafted over 6 months and is currently the largest of its type ever built with a height of 32 feet 3 inches, weighing approximately 3,500kg, and operating in the same manner as a regular sized vending machine where a token is inserted to receive a capsule. This unique machine is a good example of creative retail innovation that is retrospective yet at the same time, modern and new.

Jack Brockbank, Official Adjudicator for GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™, verified the machine in person at the mall and was equally excited to be part of this historic event as he presented the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Certificate for the new record title 'Largest capsule vending machine' to Koh Huey Min, Executive Director of Berjaya Times Square.

At the press conference held after that, Koh shared that "Our marketing team had worked on this project for the past six months. We knew the 'Largest capsule vending machine' had struck the right note when we saw the joy on the faces of our shoppers once the capsule was retrieved and the surprise toy was revealed."

"Berjaya Times Square has always prided itself to be at the forefront of the retail industry and constantly strives to provide the best experience for all and this record is not the first 'large' invention of the mall. Besides being the largest building ever built in a single phase, the mall is also home to the largest indoor theme park in the country and has previously built the largest lion head replica and largest blossom tree replica in Malaysia. The recently unveiled Grand Musical Stairs is also the first of its kind in Malaysia."

Koh further added, "The aforementioned achievements together with the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title that we have received today have undoubtedly put Berjaya Times Square in the world map and endorsed Berjaya Times Square as an international icon on par with most of the prestigious malls in the world."

From 1 June until 28 September 2013 ("Ten-rific Celebration"), Berjaya Times Square Kuala Lumpur invites shoppers to join the fun as loyal shoppers will be rewarded with more than RM500,000 worth of prizes throughout the four-month campaign all leading to the final Big Bash on the mall's actual birthday on 29 September 2013.

In this Big Ten-rific Bash, shoppers are treated to a double reward for their support towards the mall. In addition to the daily redemption, shoppers can also participate in the Perfect 10 Celebration Lucky Draw with many exciting prizes to be won!

WORLD'S LARGEST CAPSULE VENDING MACHINE - A CAPSULE FRENZY (REDEMPTION)

A testament to the mall's decade of continuous innovations, the device can best be described as a vending machine which dispenses a mysterious capsule as one deposits a token into the slot. It is instantly recognizable as it is made up of two halves which are of a solid colour on one side and transparent on the other and each capsule contains a prize which is unknown until it is excitedly pried open.

The giant capsule vending machine houses a variety of attractive prizes that can be won from each of these capsules. Each day, 150 tokens are available to be redeemed in 2 sessions. The first session starts at 12:00pm for the first 80 shoppers, and the second session starts at 5:00pm for the first 70 shoppers. In total, each day will see 150 shoppers stand a chance to push the button and walk away with prizes such as a 42" LED TV, iPad Mini, digital and polaroid cameras, relaxing spa packages, cash vouchers, Berjaya Times Square Theme Park Annual Family Passes and many more.*

THE PERFECT 10 CELEBRATION (LUCKY DRAW)

With every RM50 spent (unlimited receipts), shoppers will be able to redeem a lucky draw ticket to participate and stand a chance to win their very own perfect celebration worth RM10,000. Shoppers will have the chance to celebrate a momentous occasion such as a wedding proposal, anniversary and birthdays or go on a holiday of their dreams. There are 10 perfect celebration packages amounting to RM100,000 to be won and winners will be drawn on Berjaya Times Square's Big Ten-rific Bash held at Lower Ground Concourse on 29 September 2013.

In a nutshell, throughout the campaign period, shoppers who spend a minimum of RM50 will receive a token to win a fabulous prize on the spot, coupled with lucky draw ticket(s) to stand a chance to win an even bigger prize on the event day!*

WISH & WIN (FACEBOOK CONTEST)

Digital savvy shoppers can further stretch their winnings by participating in our social media contest and answer either in words or in a video, "If you had RM1,000 to spend in Berjaya Times Square, what would you buy and why?" Visit them and experience the lunacy as these characters maintain numerous rides in Malaysia's largest indoor theme park. A sound library that is composed of the piano, percussion, kalimba, and piccolo is incorporated into its design and Berjaya Times Square will alternate its sounds periodically to offer shoppers a different experience. Malaysia's First Motion Sensor Grand Musical Stairs will tempt the young and old to revel in their melodious footsteps as they make their way to Lower Ground Concourse.
