SINGAPORE, Sept. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DHL, the world's leading international express services provider, has won the 'Best Express Logistics Provider' award at the Asian Manufacturing Awards (AMA). DHL Express Asia Pacific received this honor at the second AMA Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony held at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore on 29 August 2013.

The annual awards organized by the Manufacturing Group of publications at Contineo Media, recognizes companies that provide industrial technology solutions and value-added services that enable regional manufacturers to reach and sustain the required levels of world-class performance.

Mr. Jerry Hsu, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Express Asia Pacific said, "Asia is a key manufacturing and distribution hub across a number of industries, ranging from fashion to electronics and technology. Fueling both intra-Asian trade and faster access to international markets, we have over the recent years made significant investments in extending our capabilities through state-of-the-art services and solutions. One of our most remarkable establishments is the US$175 million North Asia Hub, launched in mid-2012, equipped with an innovative automated material handling system demonstrating DHL's commitment to keeping pace with our customers and their business growth in this region."

The company also made significant enhancements to its air network with the launch of a direct connection between Nagoya, Japan and DHL's Americas Hub in Cincinnati (US), the only daily freighter service from Nagoya to Cincinnati providing next-day delivery service to the US for all locations serviced by DHL in Japan. The return connection between Cincinnati and Tokyo enables a two-day delivery capability to Greater Tokyo Area for shippers in the US, Canada and Latin America. Both routes are serviced by Boeing 747-400 aircraft with over 100 tons capacity. Additionally, DHL has doubled the frequency of its wide-body freighter connections to Australia from two to four days per week. Via Japan, DHL is able to reinforce its daily US-Australia connection, while at the same time offer additional and strategically timed daily capacity from key North Asian markets into Australia.

This latest recognition brings the total number of external honors won by DHL Express in Asia Pacific since January 2013 to 87 across 11 markets. DHL Express has been recognized as 'Express Company of the Year' in at least eight countries, including mainland China and Hong Kong in 2013. It was also named 'Best Express Operator' at the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards in May 2013. This represented the 25th time that the company has been acknowledged with this award in its 27-year history.

This year, the AMA presented a total of 39 awards across six main themes namely - Automation & Control, Industrial Software, Logistics & Supply Chain, Food & Beverage, Pharmaceutical and Corporate Social Responsibility. DHL was the first recipient of The 'Best Express Logistics Provider' award under the Logistics & Supply Chain category. The winners were selected by an international panel of expert judges who closely analyzed and ranked the nominations received.
