HONG KONG, Dec. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- According to Google's survey[1], 96% of smartphone users in Hong Kong use mobile internet service on a daily basis, which is the highest among Asian countries. 68% regard watching video as the main function of using smartphones, revealing the increasing popularity of mobile video, information and entertainment. To satisfy the growing demand, it is crucial to foster creative talents. Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) are jointly organizing The 7th Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival, tasked to nurture local youngsters' interest to film production and to realize their dreams. Mobile Film Production Contest is the key event of the festival and it is now calling for application. All Hong Kong residents are welcomed to join by creating local films representing Hong Kong.

Mobile Film Production Contest Nurturing Young Local Creative Talents

Since 2007, The Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival (HKMFF) has been encouraging local young generation to pursue their dreams with portable lens, while preparing themselves for the film industry. In the meantime, it encourages mobile film appreciation among the public. With wide support from all sectors, activities of the previous 6 festivals enjoyed high popularity. Of all activities, the Hong Kong mobile film production forum and the award ceremony are the most attended ones.

Mobile Film Production Contest with Judging Panel Giving Professional Opinions

Mobile Film Production Contest is the key event of the festival. Professional judging panel includes Mr. Bruce Lui, Visiting Senior Lecturer, Hong Kong Baptist University, Mr. Buck Mok, Chief Animator, TVB Network Vision and Mr. Allan Au, Experienced Documentary Producer. The contest is now open for public entries, and the application deadline is December 27, 2013. Each entry must be within 30 seconds to 10 minutes in length. Entries could come in 8 different categories. To encourage the use of smartphones as the portable filming device for the new era, Smartphone Film Award is established. All entries will be judged by professionals and experts of various fields in two rounds of assessment.

Fabulous Prizes and High Recognition

Winners of the Mobile Film Production Contest will be granted fabulous prizes including trophies and cash prizes. Award winners will receive professional comments and recognition from an array of professional assessors during the competition. Among them, 10 entries will be nominated to the 4th Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards (HKIMFA). Awarded mobile films may be showcased in events and websites of our festival partners, covering more than 9 regions or countries including China, Australia, Korea and France. All contestants will gain invaluable experience by participating in the competition, and equip themselves for business opportunities related to smartphones. The contest has received overwhelming responses with high-quality entries in the past 6 years. This year, it will continue to be opened to local independent producers, primary, secondary and tertiary students, as well as people who are interested in mobile film production.
