Praxair Sponsors ECUST Students Technical Contest

SHANGHAI, Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX), announced the winner of its East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) Students Technical Contest. The contest, funded through the Praxair Global Giving program, provides ECUST students an opportunity to build their capabilities in innovation, research and development and team work, as well as increase their awareness of social and environmental responsibility. The company awarded the first-place team with the Praxair China Dream Cup and RMB 1,000 at Praxair China's headquarters in Pudong, Shanghai.

Praxair pairs student teams with local companies to research and implement projects in such areas as environmental protection, green energy, resource recycling, pollution reduction and ecology improvement. The winning team of three students received the award for their project focused on waste water recycling optimization.

"The significance of this contest stretches far beyond the campus," said Dr. Minda Ho, president of Praxair China. "It is helping students apply their classroom learning to real-world challenges faced by global organizations. This contest builds students' abilities across a variety of areas and reflects Praxair's and ECUST's commitment to community engagement and sustainable development."

More than 20 project teams spent their summer vacations researching and implementing projects encompassing a wide variety of sustainable development areas, which increase productivity and promote green applications. Students worked with a broad range of organizations on these projects including global enterprises, industrial organizations, government entities and technical institutions.

The awards ceremony was hosted by executives from Praxair China including Dr. Minda Ho, Alex Mao, vice president of Marketing and Product Management and Roger Liu, director of Human Resources.
