DHL's 'Business without Borders - Security and Customs Insights for International Shipping' seminar was attended by senior officials from Hong Kong Customs, and focused on supporting DHL's customer base within the fashion and technology sectors, which are enjoying real growth in the city and in the region. More broadly, in 2013, Hong Kong International Airport handled over 4.1 million tonnes of airfreight. This makes it the busiest cargo hub in the world according to Airports Council International[1]. With range of new transport infrastructure coming on stream, DHL is taking steps to ensure that growth in the air-freight it facilitates can be achieved securely and in compliance with local regulations.

Jerry Hsu, Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific, DHL Express said: "DHL Express is committed to supporting our customers' expansion into emerging markets across the Asia, and around the world.  We incorporate stringent security standards and internal control process into all aspects of our operations. As the international specialist, these seminars conducted for our customers help promote greater understanding of best practices of customs security and compliance across their supply chains."

Ken Lee, Executive Vice President Commercial, Asia Pacific and Managing Director, Hong Kong and Macau, DHL Express added : "Hong Kong is home to DHL Central Asia Hub, which plays a pivotal role in our Global network handling over 230 network flights and over 1,000 commercial flights per week. As a result, Hong Kong businesses enjoy an unrivalled express service and excellent transit times. Efficient security and customs processes are fundamental to our success. Today's event is a key element of our efforts to promote an intimate understanding of what customers can do to support this.

At the event, Mr. Whelan and Mr. Yee delivered tailored sessions for local businesses. The first half of the day was devoted to outlining best practice in security and customs compliance for high technology firms. Fashion businesses also enjoyed a dedicated session.

The event comes as DHL continues to add to its excellent track record in the security and customs fields, having achieved an 'A' rating from The Transport Asset Protection Association (TAPA) - an independent organisation that develops best practice for asset protection in the technology industry. A 24-hour customs hall is situated at their Central Asia Hub- located at Hong Kong International Airport, together with shipping data sent to customs ahead of actual arrival, DHL ensures that clearance is expedited and that transfer to end-destination is as swift as possible.

DHL's success in the security field has complimented its broader efforts to develop its market leading knowledge and insight for the benefit of customers in Hong Kong. Its existing on-line resources - such as 'Small Business Solutions' which provides on-line guidance for cross-border trade - have already helped many local companies to go global.
