BANGKOK, Thailand, Aug. 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Huawei launched its largest-ever Seeds for the Future Program in Asia Pacific, in collaboration with ASEAN Foundation and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). From August 19 to 27, it will bring together 120 outstanding students from 16 countries across the Asia Pacific region for a 9-day cross-cultural, digital boot camp. While there, they will propose technical solutions to social problems through Tech4Good projects. 56 of the 120 participants are women, making the 2022 cohort the most gender-balanced in the region since the program initiated in 2008.

Asia-Pacific Seeds for the Future 2022 marks the first time the program is held since Huawei and ASEAN Foundation signed an MoU on scaling it up. TAT will host participants for a cultural tour of Bangkok. By cooperating, the three organizations aim to enhance the value and quality of the program.

The opening ceremony was attended by government officials and representatives of international organizations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit said: "At present, public and private sectors are working together to increase ICT personnel in order to keep up with changing trends. Continued Support for Talent Cultivation

In the open speech, Aaron Wang, Senior Vice President of Huawei Asia Pacific Enterprise Business said, in the digital economy, data is one of the core competitive edges for enterprises. As such, data centers play a critical role in helping enterprises go digital. By 2030, data volume will increase 30-fold and enter into YB era, enterprises have run into huge challenges on data governance and interconnection while also trying to lower carbon emissions.

Professor LEE Poh Seng (PS LEE), Executive Director of the Energy Studies Institute at the National University of Singapore, shared his insights about the data center trends and challenges in the Asia Pacific region. He noted that sustainable data center development is one of the key issues, requiring an effective sustainability reporting system to properly support carbon neutrality goals. He also highlighted the need for relevant industry standards. He explained that on average, data centers in in Asia Pacific have a relatively high power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.69, above the global average of 1.59. Hence, more should be done and one possible strategy is the introduction of liquid cooling technologies. To wrap up, He summarized the four key factors in the development of new data centers: service acceleration, sustainable development, data security, and innovation.

In the IT innovation part, Bill Raftery, senior storage expert from Futurewei, showcased Huawei's OceanStor all-flash acceleration solution, which uses flash-to-flash-to-anything (F2F2X) to help customers expedite production transactions, analyze high-performance backup and recovery data in real time, and otherwise innovate. In particular, he mentioned the unique advantages of Huawei's wide product portfolios. For example, the NOF+ solution for storage and IP networks replaces the conventional FC network, and the SOCC solution for storage and optical networks implements quick failover between data centers within seconds. These innovations are closely related to Huawei's continuous R&D investment in the ICT field.

In the Network innovation part, based on a study commissioned with Forrester consulting, while many decision-makers have begun to experiment with partially or fully implemented DCN automation at their enterprises, there are still certain misconceptions regarding the process. Maturity level is also low under multicloud and multivendor conditions. Decision-makers need to introduce new technologies, tools, processes, as well as integrated application and O&M solutions to achieve a higher automation level."  

Philip Lai, Huawei's Chief Data Center Architect, introduces multiple solutions, such as L3.5 autonomous driving network (ADN) and WDM transmission Data Center Interconnect (DC OptiX). It uses advanced technologies like AI to create intelligent connectivity, deploying network self-organization, repair, and optimization. Ultimately, these actions lead to a simplified network architecture, high performance, intelligent O&M, and cost reduction.

In the Green Data center part, Sun Xiaofeng, Vice President of Huawei Digital Power, introduced Huawei's next-gen simplified, green, intelligent, and secure data center infrastructure solution. The new solution integrates several innovations, including a reconstructed architecture, temperature control, O&M, and power supply. Huawei FusionDC uses pre-configured modules to roll out large-scale DCs in just six to nine months, reducing carbon emissions by 90%. For small- and medium-sized DCs, Huawei FusionModule adopts a modular and intelligent model to deliver high integration, plug-and-play, and remote, centralized O&M.

The session was themed "Green, Efficient, and Intelligent Campus". Huawei converges multiple technologies and develops innovative product portfolio solutions to match industry scenarios based on customers' business pain points. At United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties: UNFCCC COP (COP26), Thailand has announced its commitment to the climate change issue as the main priority. Huawei has deployed its digital power solutions in more than 170 countries and regions. This project remarks the first and largest 5G smart hospital project in Thailand and the ASEAN region. It aims to bring more efficient and convenient experience to patients by introducing technologies such as 5G, cloud, and artificial intelligence

Siriraj Hospital and Huawei will establish a Joint Innovation Lab to incubate innovative 5G applications. Currently, the two parties have started piloting 5G portable medical boxes, 5G unmanned vehicle, 5G medical carts, and 5G smart hospital beds. It is expected that 30 5G medical applications will be incubated and promoted nationwide in 2022.

General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister, addressed the national policy on 5G technology and digital economy, stating, "The Thai government understands the importance of technology, successfully drafting a plan for Digital Thailand, and today is an important first step in the utilization of digital technologies and 5G in the medical field. This will help reduce processes for medical personnel, decrease overall risk, and will improve the effectiveness and efficacy of healthcare for patients. We will use Siriraj 5G Smart Hospital as a pilot project with the aim of expanding to other hospitals in the future. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Siriraj Hospital and Huawei have established long-term cooperation in 5G technology development and application. The program provides students with a deep dive into the latest developments in ICT, including cloud computing, IoT and 5G, to truly immerse themselves in China's traditional and modern culture. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the program in Singapore. In July 2021, Huawei announced, Seeds for the Future Program 2.0, where the company plans to invest US$150 million in digital talent development over the next five years globally. "We are proud to help bridge this divide by supporting local talents through our Seeds of the Future program. This year also marks Huawei's 20^th anniversary in Singapore, I hope that this program will revert to a physical one next year for a wholly immersive experience. In the meantime, we will continue to work with the local government, our partners and the institutes of higher learning through our dedicated curriculum, training and leadership programs as well as collaborations to further cultivate and grow local talent as we train them to become the leaders of tomorrow."

The Seeds for the Future program is open to all outstanding undergraduates/graduates from universities or polytechnics with strong interest in ICT industry. Students who have recommendations from their university or polytechnics, IMDA SG:D Scholarship Winners or IMDA recommended students will be shortlisted for the program.

Scaling beyond local boundaries with cross-cultural learning 

To further boost resources, Huawei also launched a wider range of courses including the latest HMS development, Android APP development, TECH4ALL sessions, and entrepreneurship trainings this year. Participants also explored various learning opportunities via Huawei exhibition hall live visits, live Chinese cultural sightseeing, pre-recorded visits, and live Q&A sessions with growing companies.

To continue the learning journey, all Seed Alumni will also be granted access to The Smart Urban Co-Innovation Lab @ East Coast which brings together Grassroots Organisations, schools and businesses in East Coast to offer better jobs, more opportunities for collaboration and co-creating of solutions for the community and businesses, as well as equip students and working adults with future-ready skills.

The closing ceremony culminated with a panel discussion joined by industry experts including Mr Pang Yan, Associate Professor from the National University of Singapore, Ms Jessica Tan, MP of East Coast GRC and Seeds Alumni, Mr Yu Peng Fei, Associate Cybersecurity Specialist, GovTech, and Mr Ivan Low, Chief Strategy Officer of Huawei International, discussing the importance of developing local ICT talent, its challenges and Huawei's role in expanding collaboration, and the exchange of resources, knowledge, and new ideas between Singapore and China. 

Huawei and NUS BAC seek to deepen the understanding of big data, cloud computing, and business analytics technologies, and their applications to the digital transformation of enterprises. This collaboration aims to empower students and researchers, giving them the opportunity to tap into Huawei's expertise in ICT technology, software development and resources.

Jointly formed by the NUS School of Computing and NUS Business School, NUS BAC offers the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) programme.

Huawei will be providing cloud and analytics training workshops for, as well as capstone internship opportunities with its partners, allowing students to gain deep insight and embark on highly sought-after hands-on experiences with industry leaders. The MSBA students will also benefit from cloud computing resources provided by Huawei.

In addition, NUS BAC will organise a Huawei-NUS analytics innovation challenge for students and researchers in the developer community to create innovative solutions for problem statements based on realistic business challenges from Huawei and its partners.

Associate Professor James Pang Yan, Co-Director of the NUS BAC, said, "Big data, AI and cloud computing will be crucial for business analytics as we move into a highly connected, digital-first future. Our collaboration with Huawei is designed to provide NUS students and researchers with an immersive experience and the requisite skills which will pave the way for an exciting career in the field of ICT."

Minister Luhut extended appreciation to Huawei for more than 21 years of effort in building digital infrastructure and developing the digital ecosystem of Indonesia. "Indonesia is now gearing up to prepare strategic projects that involve new energy development and smart technology on the lead-up to host the G20 Summit in Bali next year. As we now move forward to promoting green development and smart future, we would like to invite Huawei to participate in these sectors. We understand that Huawei is very advanced in these areas," added Minister Luhut.

In July this year, the Government of Indonesia set its target to reach net zero emissions by 2060 at the latest, a decade faster than previous estimate of 2070. In addition, digitalization has also become Indonesia's top priority development under President Joko Widodo. The country plans to drive digital economic growth and accelerate the rapid development of high-tech industries.

Huawei Rotating Chairman Guo Ping welcomed Minister Luhut and thanked the Indonesian Government for providing great support to Huawei in the past two decades. "Indonesia is blessed with potential to develop high-tech industries," said Guo Ping. "As part of Indonesia's digital ecosystem, Huawei will focus on technology innovations and make every effort to assist Indonesia in building robust ICT infrastructure and successful digitalization by using digital advanced technologies such as 5G, AI cloud and IoT. "

Guo Ping added that "Besides enabling Indonesia's digital transformation, Huawei will also contribute to the green transformation and new energy development by using digital technologies."

Huawei estimates that over the next 30 to 40 years, intelligence and low-carbon will continue to gain traction in which digital technologies are necessity to drive intelligence, while power electronics technologies are crucial to reduce carbon footprint. The global energy industry will shift more towards technology-driven rather than resource-dependent as the trends unfold.

Minister Luhut also toured around Huawei campuses in Shenzhen and Dongguan. He was accompanied by cabinet colleagues - Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and Muhammad Lutfi, Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia.

Digital talent development in Indonesia is one of Huawei's important contributions. The company launched a nationwide digital talent program in 2020 in collaboration with Indonesia's Presidential Office (KSP) to cultivate more than 100,000 digital talents in 5 years. To date, Huawei has managed to achieve halfway of the 5 years target within the first two years, epitomizing Huawei's seriousness and eagerness to support Indonesia's vision.

In his opening remark, Founder and Chairman of FPCI Dr. Dino Patti Djalal highlighted the significant growth rate in digital economy in post-pandemic scenario, pointing out the region's online spending to US$174 billion this year, compared to $100 billion in 2020, on its fast track to reach $363 billion by 2025 on the back of rapidly growing internet penetration and digital deals across the region.

"We can see from these numbers that has been really remarkable growth of digital economy in Southeast Asia. This FPCI and Huawei discussion aims to have an inclusive discussions between Southeast Asian and Chinese policy makers and experts on the state of digital economy and where they go in the future," Dino asserted.

In support of the ASEAN digital economy growth, Vice President of Huawei Asia Pacific Jay Chen emphasized Huawei's long-term commitment to the region's critical communication services, digital services combining connectivity and cloud to accelerate economic recovery. "By combining the power of new ICT like digital connectivity, cloud and artificial intelligence, we can integrate the green economy and digital transformation for the sustainable development in ASEAN. With the ASEAN Economic community vision 2025 as the course, we can come together to help synchronize the strategies of ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 and chart a path towards an ideal ASEAN economic community, and a resilient digital society for individuals, communities and businesses," said Jay.

Speaking of the ASEAN Digital Masterplan, Secretary General for ASEAN Economic Community H.E. Satvinder Singh said that "The ASEAN economic community is basically the vision to develop integrated and highly cohesive economic region for all of us and countries where the hope is there, everything ranging from goods, services, investment, even capital and even skill labor can move seamlessly throughout our region." 

Satvinder Singh commended Huawei and ASEAN collaboration, especially through the ASEAN Seeds for the Future program. "We hope the focus can be further expanded with the rest of ASEAN member states."

Voicing similar recognition to Huawei's contribution, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah said, "Our telecommunications sector in Malaysia has very good engagements and partnerships with Huawei. We are looking at growing local icons to be upscaled to regional and international platforms. This is where we can learn from partners like Huawei towards building inclusive digital connectivity and economy."

Meanwhile, Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth of Singapore Low Yen Ling said, "It is my pleasure to be speaking at the FPCI-Huawei digital conference. ASEAN member states continue to grapple with the global pandemic and fundamental shifts in the international order. However, therein also lies tremendous opportunities. One key area is in the unparalleled digital acceleration we are witnessing today. Southeast Asia is one of the fastest growing internet markets in the world."

Travelling from the China-Laos border to Vientiane capital has shorten from 2 days to 3 hours. The 1035 kilometer has brought the country into a new era for the transportation network in the region, it will boost the various sectors of the region and help Laos to recover its economic that hit by the pandemic.

Huawei Smart Railway Solution has supported the Laos-China Railway in the digitalization efforts, enabling advances in safety and security across all aspects of the railway, including construction, operations and maintenance. Huawei works closely with the Laos telecom operators to build the high-speed network, ensure stable connectivity. The advanced technology has benefited the Laos people and passenger.

"The launching of the Laos-China Railway is a great vision of the leaders of both countries, with the significant efforts of all the workers has made this come true in 5 year time. Huawei worked together with the Laos telecom operators to build the wireless network along the railway. 5G coverage will be available in the short future, that the people can enjoy a more stable, high-speed and smart connectivity. After we open the railway, we should open the digital-way, digital-one-belt-one-road," said Dr. Boviengkham VONGDARA, Minister of Technology and Communications of Laos.

The project director of Huawei Laos, Somlith Nammanininh said, "This is my great honor to participate in this grand opening and support the ceremony. As a Laotian, I am very excited that finally there is a railway in my motherland. I believe the Lao-China Railway will foster the economy, help Laos to integrate into the global market, create more opportunities for the local business and people. As a Huawei people that participate in the network construction of the whole railway, I am very proud of the HUAWEI CLOUD meeting, 5G technology and FTTX solution has ensured the online meeting of this historical moment. I look forward to see the merging of digital technology and modern transportation to bring a good future to the country."

Leaders from across the globe attended the event, including Neil Bush, Chairman of the George H.W. Bush Foundation for US-China Relations, Pascal Lamy, Former Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), William Nordhaus, Winner of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Economics, H.E. Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Economic Community, Derrick Pitts, NASA Solar System Ambassador, and Hou Jinlong, Senior Vice President of Huawei and President of Huawei Digital Power.

Attendees discussed challenges we are facing in the global economy, environmental protection, livelihoods, technology innovation, and many other key areas, and called for concerted efforts from countries and industries to address these challenges.

Humanity has entered an era in which interests, fates, and futures are all closely intertwined. A whole-of-society approach is necessary to address the common threats and challenges facing the global community. Pascal Lamy pointed out that "We need to mitigate de-globalization, in order to avoid making this world a worse place."

Satvinder Singh, in his speech, spoke highly of the important role of the private sector like Huawei in advancing inclusive and sustainable economic recovery in ASEAN and beyond. He also shared ASEAN's development achievements and expressed willingness to cooperate across numerous areas, including economy and trade, transportation and materials, digital transformation, high-performance computing, and climate change.

Satvinder Singh called upon all sides to take action. "We should seize this opportunity to make our societal and economic recovery truly transformative by investing in solutions to the crisis that address social, environmental, and economic transitions needed by our society and the planet," said the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community.

Seeking common ground while setting aside differences and building trust is the way forward. Industry digitalization, particularly regarding technological innovation in areas like green power, will present new opportunities to all sectors worldwide and make the world a better place. Today, fighting climate change is a mission that is shared worldwide, with many countries having announced low-carbon pledges.

William Nordhaus said that governments should increase investment in low-carbon technologies and research. Hou Jinlong remarked, "Over the next 30 to 40 years, we will continue to see intelligence and low carbon gain traction. Going intelligent requires digital technologies, while decreasing our carbon footprint requires power electronics technologies. As these trends progress, the global energy industry will change from resource-dependent to technology-driven."

Hou also expressed Huawei Digital Power's commitment to integrating digital and power electronics technologies, developing clean power, and enabling energy digitalization. "By pursuing innovations in clean power generation, energy digitalization, transportation electrification, green ICT infrastructure, and integrated smart energy, we are working with global customers and partners to build low-carbon homes, factories, campuses, villages, and cities. This will support the shift from a low-carbon world to a zero-carbon world," he said.

Several guests warned that geopolitics should not stand in the way of technological cooperation and innovation. They also called for sectors and countries to avoid decoupling and overcome the zero-sum thinking. Neil Bush expressed his concerns about growing global decoupling, saying "Many are embracing a dangerous zero-sum mentality that defies common sense. China's success does not take away from ours, and vice versa." He added, "Particularly in the area of technology, when China and the United States collaborate, we can innovate in foundational and revolutionary ways."

''Carbon neutrality has become a global consensus and mission. I believe it will be one of the biggest changes in the upcoming 30-40 years. It will not only revolutionize power production and consumption, but also bring opportunities to upgrade all industries as well as rethink our economy and society,'' said Dr. Fang Lianzhou, VP and CMO of Huawei Digital Power.

Carbon neutrality is a growing trend in the global fight against climate change. Huawei Telecom Digital Power Summit APAC 2021 provided a virtual platform to exchange experiences in reducing both carbon emissions and OPEX, helping partners and customers digitalize their energy and go carbon neutral.

The global ICT industry consumed over 570 billion kWh of electricity in 2020 and the figure is expected to reach 1.85 trillion kWh in 2030. In addition, data center facilities and telecommunication networks were responsible for 160 million tons and 146 million tons of carbon emissions in 2020, respectively. It is therefore undeniable that the ICT industry will need to play a major role in reaching carbon neutrality targets.

The summit looked at the foundation of building green telecommunication networks and data center facilities. Speakers shared their insights, tips, and best practices. Viewers from around the world glimpsed the latest green energy facilities for telecommunication networks and data centers, global best practices, and innovative solutions for new building facilities and modernization.

Ms. Yoly Crisanto, CSO of Globe Telecom, one of the largest and most advanced telecommunication operators in Asia Pacific, shared her experience in 5G deployment and site digitalization. Globe works to actively contribute to 10 out of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Ms. Crisanto also explained that Globe is significantly reducing its carbon emissions through green energy transformation. Globe Telecom has set a remarkable example for telecommunication operators worldwide, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 57% or 0.57 million tons by 2030.

Sanjay Kr Sainani, Global SVP & CTO of Huawei Digital Power highlighted key technologies for reduced Carbon Footprint in Data Centers. "Prefabricated & Modular Construction allow use of recyclable materials, reduced consumption & wastage and shortens time to deploy Data Center Facilities. Huawei has pioneered high efficiency converged power & cooling systems, embedded IoT, AI enabled O&M technologies that have been successfully implemented in Data Centers from China to Ireland to help reduce Data Center life-cycle Carbon footprint," he said.

After the keynote sessions, the audience took a virtual tour of the Huawei Digital Power Innovation Experience Center, learning about the latest digital power solutions as well as the next-generation data center and telecommunication sites in Dongguan and Hangzhou.

The event was hosted under the theme "Digital Infrastructure Benefits Everyone." The goal is to accelerate the fiber-based infrastructure in Thailand and raise the standards to the next level.

Trairat Viriyasirikul, Deputy Secretary General and acting Secretary General, NBTC, addressed the collaboration in his speech, saying that "Fiber-based broadband infrastructure is critical for the development of Thailand's digital infrastructure in order to drive digital economy. Broadband infrastructure coverage must be accelerated and upgraded to the gigabits-speed standard. The partnership today marks the start of our joint efforts to develop Thailand's broadband infrastructure, which will in turn drive the country to becoming an ASEAN digital hub and help close the digital-divide gap in the country."

Simon Lin, President of Huawei Asia Pacific, said, "Digital infrastructure is benefiting individual lives. Technologies, such as broadband, 5G, cloud, and AI, keep our society together. 2022 will open a new chapter for digital infrastructure. I believe that with our joint efforts, we can create a fully connected and inclusive Giga Thailand."

Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., added that "The convergence of connectivity and computing will change all industries, whether it is a transportation, finance, or energy industry, and create new value for society. Fiber broadband has become a part of core infrastructure of digital economy, similar to water and electricity, and it will be a new driver for social development and economic growth."

Dr. Atsuko Okuda, Regional Director of International Telecommunication Union, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, said, "At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgency of accelerating digital transformation. This means advancing the goals and targets of ITU's Connect 2030 Agenda, leaving no one behind, and ensuring the creation of a safe and enabling environment towards digital transformation and innovation. Our Connect 2030 Agenda contributes to the UN Decade of Action to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and SDG9 in particular: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. Digital technologies, and the work of ITU, are vital to achieve all 17 SDGs."

During the virtual meeting, Gen Prayut and Mr. Ren exchanged views on how to consolidate digital competitiveness and build a strong foundation for ICT talent in Thailand.

Gen Prayut also stressed the important role that advanced ICT technologies and digital innovation would play in supporting Thailand's economic resilience and sustainability, stating that "Huawei has provided profound contributions to Thailand's fight against the pandemic and digital transformation. I am deeply impressed by Huawei history and dedication culture. In the future, Thailand is eager to cooperating with Huawei in various areas, including digital economy, 5G smart hospital, cloud and computing, digital power, smart logistics and data center."

Mr. Ren expressed his gratitude for Thai government's trust in Huawei and congratulated Thailand on its achievements in 5G rollout. He emphasized that "Huawei and Thailand have been working together to build a strong digital infrastructure foundation. In the future, we look forward to accelerating the integration of digital technologies in Thailand's key industries, especially in port and airport scenarios."

"We have strong belief in Thailand's successful digital transformation and talent development. Our local team will work closely with Thai customers and partners to serve the country's social and economic development with technology solutions," Ren said.

Gen Prayut and Mr. Ren also highlighted a commitment to cultivate upskilled and digital talent in Thailand. In order to drive Thailand's digital transformation and long-term development, both men stressed that the public and private sector must work together to build an open, shared ICT talent ecosystem that benefits all.

In March 2021, Huawei Thailand has been chosen for the Special Prime Minister Award as the "Digital International Corporation of the Year". The award recognizes Huawei for its support and contributions to Thai society and its efforts to support digital transformation.

The state-of-the art technology and solutions displayed in Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd's (Huawei Malaysia) CSIC also aim to assist the nation in becoming the ASEAN Digital Hub.

Huawei's CSIC was designed as an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Hub and Centre of Excellence to drive the industry's open ecosystem and accelerate digital economy transformation in Malaysia.

The CSIC, located in Integra Tower at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, aggregates the company's over 120 reference applications and services globally.

Huawei's customers and partners are able to leverage this innovative platform to design and test technology solutions, verify new business models, and nurture innovation applications and services to both the public and private sectors.

Present during the ceremony was Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia, Mr Michael Yuan.

Delivering the keynote address during the launch, Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri said the CSIC is a testament to Huawei Malaysia's commitment to the nation's digital transformation.

"Thank you Huawei for accelerating digital transformation and strengthening the development of Malaysia's innovative platforms since 20 years ago. For that, I would like to wish Huawei a Happy 20th Anniversary! We will always appreciate and value your contribution towards the nation's digital talent development.

"I was informed that most of Huawei Malaysia's employees are local. Talents are a crucial part in accelerating digital transformation for the nation," he said.

The Prime Minister added that he believes that Malaysia has the capacity and capability to achieve 100% digital inclusivity, especially among the vulnerable communities.

"I am proud to say, in embracing the concept of Keluarga Malaysia, Huawei has taken an important role in helping the Government address this matter. I hope more corporations will come forward to follow in your footsteps," he said.

CEO of Huawei Malaysia, Mr Yuan, meanwhile, said that through the CSIC, they would continue to bring global experiences to serve the needs of the ICT industry in Malaysia and to assist local stakeholders in succeeding in their businesses.

"This centre will act as a catalyst to accelerate Malaysia's digital transformation and to capitalise on the potential of advanced technologies and assist in driving investments in the digital economy for the nation at the same time," added Mr Yuan.

He further pointed out, "It is our belief that a better-connected Malaysia will have a prosperous future. We are currently in a period where ubiquitous connectivity is no longer a luxury, but a vital requirement for a country to achieve fully developed status. Therefore, we look forward to growing together with Malaysia, to playing an integral part in the nation's technology-based economy and to building a better future for all Malaysians,"

Among the business-to-business solutions available and showcased at the CSIC included Huawei's 5G solutions around the world, including those for Smart Cities and autonomous vehicles as well as Huawei's Smart Education system, including hybrid learning, which increases participation and engagement between students and teachers, and allows for some students attending class in-person while others join virtually.

Cloud Computing was another highlight – where Huawei is working with Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) on their Alpha Edge, the only Malaysian-owned Cloud and AI infrastructure and services to enterprises and government institutions that ensures data sovereignty.

Also showcased were Agro-tech systems with Artificial Intelligence technology that could save time, monitor quality, as well as predict yield and output. This included the production of premium caviar in Malaysia using this technology.

The CSIC also displayed network infrastructure devices which utilise latest technological advances in 5G and telecommunications as well as Huawei's RuralStar, which overcomes the technical challenges of connecting remote areas, bringing connectivity to hard-to-reach communities.

The event explored how digital technologies can unlock new potential, markets, and business models, as well as support post-pandemic economic recovery in the Asia Pacific region. The event thoroughly showcased the practical application of technologies like Cloud, 5G, AI, and Digital Power in all industries through digital transformation, particularly agriculture, manufacturing, and renewable energy sectors.

Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand General Prawit Wongsuwon opened the event, stating that "Digital technology is crucial to Thailand's digital economic development, post-pandemic recovery, and social well-being. The collaboration between government and industry to integrate technologies and evolve the country will enhance business potential, government efficiency, and Thailand's sustainability."    

"Under strong policies to develop the national digital economy and technology, Thailand's digital infrastructure and data economy have made great strides in the past several years. We believe that Thailand's digital economy can reach 30% of its GDP by 2030 or even earlier. In this endeavor, we look forward to continue working with Huawei and deepen our collaboration to use digital innovation in promoting Thailand's digital economy," H.E. Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand, said in his keynote speech.

Mr. Guo Ping, Huawei Rotating Chairman, stressed in his opening speech that "digital technology, especially 5G, cloud, and AI, will surely become a pillar for economic recovery and resilience in many countries."

"Huawei will continue innovating and building a tech ecosystem to help the Asia Pacific region go digital faster," Mr. Guo Ping said. "We use 5G, cloud, and AI to help industries go digital and we will keep innovating our cloud and AI solutions to create steady value for local enterprises, especially SMEs. We plan to invest 100 million US dollars over the next three years to help build a startup ecosystem in the region."

Guo reiterated Huawei's commitment in the Asia Pacific region. "We believe all countries in the Asia Pacific region will succeed in their push to go digital. We will extend our roots deeper and do our part during the region's 10 golden years of digital transformation."

During this event, industry leaders and regional organizations across the Asia Pacific also shared their insights on how to build a thriving and sustainable community in the digital era.

"I would like to use this opportunity to commend Huawei and Bangkok Post for initiating the Asia Pacific Innovation Day, which brings together government leaders, industry thought leaders, and thinktank scholars to spark new ICT innovations that can pave the way for more resilient post-COVID-19 recovery in the Asia Pacific region," said Dr. Yang Mee Eng, Executive Director, ASEAN Foundation.

Further, Dr. Le Quang Lan, Assistant Director, Head of ICT and Tourism Division, ASEAN Secretariat, emphasized that "The power of digital economy lies in its ability to enable companies to scale their business models throughout the region, and a common approach for digital transformation should be adopted throughout the Asia Pacific region."

Mr. Lin Baifeng, President of Huawei Asia Pacific, emphasized that "As one of the most populous and diverse regions in the world, Asia Pacific is marching to the forefront of the global digital landscape. With over 20 years of partnership with and contributions in the region, Huawei is committed to supporting Thailand and the region's digital vision in three key areas: Connectivity and Intelligence, Low-Carbon Development, and Digital Inclusion Initiatives."

When discussing Thailand's low-carbon development, Mr. Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Thailand added, "Huawei is fully committed to supporting Thailand in becoming ASEAN's low-carbon leader, and we are confident in achieving this goal. We have over 30 years of experience in the power industry, with 6,000+ dedicated R&D employees in this field, and we devote nearly 15% of our total revenue to R&D every year."

Combined existing energy business, Huawei introduced digital power business to APAC, which focus on developing clean energy to replace fossil fuels through digital and power electronics technology, aim to build a low carbon smart society. Huawei Digital Power business drives industries low-carbonization by applying applications such as Smart PV & Battery Energy Storage, Intelligent EV Charging Network, Smart Data Center Facility and Green Site Power Facility, currently in Thailand is providing service to over 1000 customers and partners.

The Huawei Asia Pacific Innovation Day showcases key technologies and innovations for industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, and smart energy. The event also highlighted business cases and solutions related to digital transformation, including how to develop a green, low-carbon, and open ecosystem.

Dr. Fang Liangzhou, Vice President and CMO of Huawei Digital Power, shared his view about how to build a low-carbon smart society through digital power. Carbon neutrality has become a global consensus and mission. 44 countries have identified carbon-neutral timings, such as Europe Union in 2050 and China in 2060. I believe it is one of the biggest trends in the coming 30 to 40 years. It is not only a revolution in power production and consumption, but also an unprecedented opportunity of upgrading all industries, and bringing a comprehensive and profound revolution to our economy and society.

According to International Energy Agency (IEA), global carbon emissions mainly come from 3 industries: Electricity power, manufacture, and transportation. Electricity power accounts for 40% of carbon emissions. And transportation accounts for 21% of carbon emissions.

"To achieve carbon neutrality, Power production needs to be low carbonized and Power consumption needs to be electrified," Dr. Fang said in the keynote, "Huawei has deeply integrated digital technologies and power electronics technologies to create all-scenario low-carbon energy solutions, covering the whole energy flow from green power generation to efficient power consumption." 

According to his speech, Huawei PV solution can reduce LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) by 7% and improves O&M efficiency by 50%. In commercial & industrial scenario, Huawei PV solution can help users achieve higher power generation and better power storage. In residential scenario, Huawei PV solution can be installed in different directions, and can increase the power generation by up to 30% with intelligent optimization. Huawei also launched an off-grid integrated energy solution to replace diesel generators with PV, which can reduce power generation costs by more than 50%, achieving zero carbon emissions.

New energy sources are intermittent and random. They generate electricity when there is sun or wind, which is unstable energy and often depends on the weather. Therefore, solar energy and wind energy must be combined with energy storage to provide stable energy

Dr. Fang mentioned the World's Largest Energy Storage Project, which Huawei signed in Dubai last month with SEPCOIII for the Red Sea Project. The project will help Saudi Arabia build a global clean energy and green economy center.

The vision of Huawei Digital Power Company is to digitalize traditional energy and develop green energy, by integrating digital technologies and power electronics technologies, to drive the energy revolution for a better, greener future.

"Huawei Digital Power is to use bits to manage watts, use digital technologies to manage power electronics and equipment, and provide simplified, green, smart, and secure solutions for clean power generation, green ICT infrastructure, transportation electrification, and integrated smart energy. We will keep openness and work closely with our customers and partners to build a zero-carbon intelligent society," Dr. Fang said.

With more than 10 years of experience in researching and developing energy storage systems, Huawei highly valued technology research and development, and has been investing at least 10 % of revenue in R&D every year, with total $90 billion spent in R&D over the past decade.

Targeting carbon neutrality and clean energy, Huawei Digital power has helped customers generate 403.4 billion kWh of green electricity and save 12.4 billion kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to reducing carbon emissions by more than 200 million tons and planting 270 million trees. In the Philippines, Huawei has worked together with big developers and local partners to build utility, Commercial &Industrial and residential Solar Power plants in the country. 

 "We are facing unprecedented opportunities for low-carbon society, and I firmly believe if we embrace the globalization, mutual trust, open collaboration, we can seize the opportunities, and create a green and bright future together," said Dr. Fang.
