vegetables at sea in 2024 through its fleetwide hydroponics programme. Launched 
in 2019, the initiative is part of Berge Bulk's broader efforts to improve 
crew's wellbeing and reduce food and packaging waste. It supports Berge Bulk's 
YouMatter wellbeing programme and their Blue Matters environmental campaign.

In partnership with Aerospring Hydroponics, Berge Bulk installed 150 advanced 
hydroponic systems across 75 vessels. These systems enable crew members to grow 
vegetables and herbs such as lettuce, cherry tomatoes, capsicum, chili, basil, 
and rosemary in a soil-free, nutrient-rich water environment.

The programme also contributes to the company's environmental sustainability 
ambitions. Michael Blanding, Head of Sustainability & Communications, explains,
"We serve nearly 2 million meals annually, so growing our own produce means 
that we are using less plastic food packaging and avoiding emissions from 
transportation of food. We are also seeing a significant decrease in food waste 
on board."

As of the end of 2024, Berge Bulk had achieved a 12% reduction in food waste 
per vessel (vs. 2021 baseline), ahead of the company's stated target to achieve 
a 10% reduction by the end of 2025.

With four WindWings installed, each possessing an aerodynamic span of 37.5 
metres height and 20 metres width, the Berge Olympus will save 6 tonnes of fuel 
per day on an average worldwide route and, in the process, reduce CO2 emissions 
by approximately 19.5 tonnes per day. With these fuel savings and CO2 
reductions, Berge Bulk is evaluating the potential of installing WindWings on 
more of its vessels that trade on routes with favourable wind conditions.

Berge Bulk's WindWings project is a testament to its commitment to lead the 
way towards a zero-carbon future while enhancing vessel efficiency. This 
initiative aligns with the new IMO goals, to reach net-zero GHG emissions from 
international shipping by or around, i.e., close to 2050, as well as indicative 
check-points for international shipping to reach net-zero GHG emissions for 
2030 (by at least 20%, striving for 30%) and 2040 (by at least 70%, striving 
for 80%). Contributing to this mission, Berge Bulk's WindWings project reflects 
its dedication to environmental sustainability and technological advancement.

In addition to the installation of the WindWings, Berge Olympus has been 
retrofitted with a shaft generator system. The shaft generator is driven by the 
main engine to supply electric power to the vessel, thus saving fuel and 
reducing emissions. With a 1MW capacity, it is sized to eliminate the need to 
operate auxiliary engines while at sea. This installation is in itself 
ground-breaking and concludes a program that saw multiple vessels retrofitted 
with the technology.

<p>With four WindWings installed, each possessing an aerodynamic span of 37.5 metres height and 20 metres width, the Berge Olympus will save 6 tonnes of fuel per day on an average worldwide route and, in the process, reduce CO<sub>2</sub> emissions by approximately 19.5 tonnes per day. With these fuel savings and CO<sub>2</sub> reductions, Berge Bulk is evaluating the potential of installing WindWings on more of its vessels that trade on routes with favourable wind conditions.</p> 
<p>Berge Bulk's WindWings project is a testament to its commitment to lead the way towards a zero-carbon future while enhancing vessel efficiency. This initiative aligns with the new IMO goals, to reach net-zero GHG emissions from international shipping by or around, i.e., close to 2050, as well as indicative check-points for international shipping to reach net-zero GHG emissions for 2030 (by at least 20%, striving for 30%) and 2040 (by at least 70%, striving for 80%). Contributing to this mission, Berge Bulk's WindWings project reflects its dedication to environmental sustainability and technological advancement.</p> 
<p>In addition to the installation of the WindWings, Berge Olympus has been retrofitted with a shaft generator system. The shaft generator is driven by the main engine to supply electric power to the vessel, thus saving fuel and reducing emissions. The first vessel, Berge Neblina, a 388k DWT Valemax ore carrier built in 
2012, was made 'wind-ready' earlier this year. The structural integration 
required prior to installing the technology was carried out during a scheduled 
dry dock. Four of Anemoi's large folding deployment Rotor Sails will be 
installed to improve vessel performance. Folding Rotor Sails can be lowered 
from the vertical to mitigate the impact on air draught and cargo handling 
operations.

This flexible "wind-ready" approach has been taken to align with vessel 
availability and Anemoi's production slots. The same approach has been taken 
with the second vessel,Berge Mulhacen, a 2017-built 210k DWT Newcastlemax bulk 
carrier, which will also receive four folding Rotor Sails. Plan approval has 
been obtained for both ships from DNV.

embarked on an ambitious environmental programme that has produced ships like
Berge Logan, the most energy-efficient bulk carrier in the world. Continuing 
this programme, Berge Bulk aims to be carbon-neutral by 2025 at the latest and 
to have a zero-carbon ocean-going dry bulk carrier by 2030. Such an ambitious 
programme will require significant technical expertise and innovative talent to 
achieve and present numerous technical, commercial and regulatory challenges.
