The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of ebm-papst's entry into the Chinese market. Over the past three decades, the company has continued to strengthen its local R&D, manufacturing and supply chain capabilities while growing together with customers and partners in China. The exchange with Inovance represented not only an in-depth sharing of technical expertise and industry practices, but also another important step in ebm-papst's ongoing efforts to deepen local partnerships, strengthen supply chain collaboration and foster innovation together with customers and partners.

Technical knowledge sharing formed a central part of the program. At Inovance's Suzhou site, ebm-papst presented its EC fan technologies and applications. Drawing on practical examples, the team shared insights into EC fan selection, software commissioning, and the latest product and technology developments, giving participating engineers a closer look at the role of EC fans in industrial automation, renewable energy equipment and other applications.

The exchange continued at ebm-papst's national-level Green Factory in Xi'an, where Inovance introduced its wheeled embodied-intelligence robots, collaborative robots, smart factory practices and zero-carbon digital energy solutions. Combined with real-world industry cases, the presentations opened up further discussion with ebm-papst employees on emerging trends in smart manufacturing and sustainable, low-carbon development.

The two companies' mobile exhibition showrooms were another highlight of the program. The ebm-papst exhibition vehicle visited Inovance's Suzhou site, while the Inovance vehicle travelled to the ebm-papst Xi'an factory, showcasing core products and innovative solutions in air technology, industrial automation and smart manufacturing.

Through product demonstrations, technical explanations and interactive experiences, employees from R&D, purchasing, supply chain, commercial and other functions gained first-hand insights into product features and typical applications. They also engaged with technical experts in in-depth discussions on product design, system applications and future industry trends.

This marks a significant milestone in the company's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Partnering with Pangolin Associates, an independent third-party emissions consultant, ebm-papst A&NZ conducted a comprehensive carbon emissions assessment for all the three scopes. By measuring and publishing the carbon footprint of all its operations, ebm-papst A&NZ underscores its dedication to transparency and accountability.

ebm-papst A&NZ achieved carbon neutrality across the scopes: Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned or controlled sources), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity), and partially Scope 3 (other indirect emissions that occur in the upstream value chain by considering upstream transportation and manufacturing processes). Scientific measures to prevent and reduce emissions include transitioning to energy-efficient technologies, procuring 100% renewable energy, optimizing supply chain logistics, and engaging suppliers in sustainability practices.

Sumatra, known for its fertile soil and significant coffee production, faces challenges such as poor infrastructure and electricity access. This grid-connected run-of-river hydroelectricity plant, built on the upper banks of the Musi River near Sumatra's port city of Bengkulu, delivers over 765,000 MWh to Sumatra's grid each year, meeting the demands of over 700,000 Indonesians annually.

Unveiling the Counterfeit Operation

In March 2023, ebm-papst received a complaint from a valued customer who had received 40 ebm-papst fans that appeared unusual compared to previous purchases. ebm-papst's response to any suspicion of counterfeit products is swift and decisive.

This investigative journey led the team through the intricate supply chain, ultimately tracing the source of this order to a trading company based in Guangdong, China. This company had opted for an online storefront to distribute what seemed to be counterfeit ebm-papst fans. But the manufacturing company was still unclear.

Under the leadership of Mr. Ralf Duckeck, Vice President of Intellectual Property at ebm-papst group, the company enlisted the expertise of Selective Trademark Union (STU China) to assist in uncovering the details behind this suspected counterfeit case.

The investigation encompassed both online and on-site aspects, allowing ebm-papst to scrutinize every detail along the supply chain. Samples of the suspected counterfeit products were obtained and meticulously compared to genuine ebm-papst fans. The team's dedication and diligence ultimately led to the discovery of the source factory responsible for refurbishing and distributing these counterfeit fans, located in Guangdong.

The Raid in Guangdong: Seizing Counterfeit Goods

In a significant breakthrough, on August 4^th 2023, led by local government authorities and assisted by STU China, a successful surprise inspection of the suspected counterfeit factory was conducted in Guangdong. During this operation, in direct communication with the factory workers, it uncovered the primary activities of this refurbishing facility.

These activities included the purchase of original ebm-papst fans and the application of fraudulent labels, refurbishing second-hand ebm-papst fans as needed, and acquiring unused old-model ebm-papst fans for refurbishment. Fans that have been refurbished will be sold as new original ebm-papst fans, and to enhance the difficulty of discerning counterfeit products, they frequently employ a blend of authentic and fake tactics.

As a result of this operation, government authorities on-site confiscated 149 fans and 260 labels. In addition, all of the counterfeit products and all income from the sale was confiscated and a fine of 20,000 RMB was imposed on the counterfeiters.
