MACAU, July 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fifth year in a row, Sands China demonstrated the Sands Cares spirit of community service Wednesday by hosting the Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build, an annual volunteer initiative of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp. Close to 450 participants gathered at The Venetian^® Macao's Cotai Expo, including members of social service organizations, Sands China's Sands Cares Ambassador community volunteers and other team members, and management executives from Las Vegas Sands. Together, they assembled 5,000 food kits, which will be distributed to locals in need through Caritas Macau. These efforts underscore Sands China's dedication to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility and its long-standing commitment to supporting the Macao community.

Wednesday's Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build was organized by Sands China with full support from the Social Welfare Bureau and the Health Bureau of the Macao SAR government. This year's event set new records in both the number of participants and the number of food kits assembled.

Patrick Dumont, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., and chairman of the board and non-executive director of Sands China Ltd., showed his support in person by participating in this event in Macao, packing food kits for local underprivileged groups –– alongside team members from 34 different Sands China departments and community partners. The warm and energetic atmosphere was a demonstration of the cohesive strength of Sands China team members in serving the community.

The 5,000 food kits assembled this year weigh 30 tons in total. Each kit contains 11 food items procured from local SMEs, including rice, cooking oil, egg noodles, and biscuits, as well as soup packs from Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society. The food kits also contain healthy and nutritious recipe cards designed by Caritas Macau and Sands China's food and beverage team, further enhanced with professional guidance from nutritionists of the Health Bureau. Through this new element of the kit, Sands China aims to promote the importance of a nutritious and healthy diet to the public, in full alignment with the Macao SAR government's "Healthy Community" initiative and the "Healthy Macao Blueprint."

The Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build initiative has prepared nearly 17,000 food kits for the Macao community to date. All food kits assembled this year will be delivered by Sands Cares Ambassadors from July to August to 34 Caritas Macau care homes and centres across multiple districts, including Fai Chi Kei, Praia do Manduco, Iao Hon, Ilha Verde, and Coloane. Caritas Macau will then distribute them to elderly residents and underprivileged groups in the community, ensuring that both food supplies and care reach those in need in Macao.

Wednesday's food kit build was officiated by: Tang Yuk Wa, deputy director of the Social Welfare Bureau; Wong Weng Man, acting head of the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control of the Health Bureau; Judy Chiang It Sin, service director of Caritas Macau; Angela Ou, chairman of the General Volunteers Association of Macao; Lai Seung Yuet, financial general of the Association of Volunteer Social Service Macao; Heidi Ho, principal secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association of Macau; Patrick Dumont, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., and chairman of the board and non-executive director of Sands China Ltd.; Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd.; Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd.; Hubert Wang, chief operating officer of Sands China Ltd., and other Sands China management executives.

Fourth consecutive Top 1% CSA score in yearbook's China edition
The S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook is regarded as one of the most prestigious publications for evaluating sustainability efforts in the business world. Assessments are based on a company's score in the CSA. For this year's China edition, S&P Global assessed nearly 1,800 companies from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, with 193 companies across 56 industries selected for the yearbook. Sands China is one of only 36 companies to rank in the Top 1% of CSA scores in the China edition, marking its fourth consecutive year to earn this accolade. This second edition of the programme is presenting two related initiatives. Firstly, through the launch of Sands China's Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme 2.0 for Rua das Estalagens, the company continues to demonstrate its unwavering support for the Macao SAR government's directive on promoting and fostering the city's economic diversification. The initiative seeks to recruit a new batch of local SMEs to establish businesses on Rua das Estalagens, re-energising the district's economic vitality. Secondly, the inaugural Shop Rebranding Programme aims to embrace the company's business philosophy of supporting local SMEs by empowering businesses already on the street to innovate, strengthen their brands, and enhance their operational capability. Centred on the principle of "integrating the old with the new, bridging the past into future," this new edition of the Community Revitalization Programme strives for the sustainable development of Rua das Estalagens by injecting fresh energy into this historic street of distinctive cultural value while rekindling its past vibrancy and charm.

Since the Macao SAR government launched its revitalisation plan in 2023, Sands China has invested resources, integrated innovative ideas, and collaborated across sectors to promote the long-term development of the city's historic districts. In April 2024, the company launched the first-of-its-kind Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens to an overwhelming response. Seven enterprises were selected from 128 applications, encompassing cultural and creative retail, food and beverage specialities, and other diversified businesses. Over the past two years, this initiative has brought a refreshing vibe into the historic street, thrusting the district into the public spotlight.

In operation for two years now, the Community Revitalization Programme for Rua das Estalagens has helped shops gain a reputation, with some becoming viral hotspots — breathing new life into the entire district. To extend the effectiveness of the programme, Sands China is now launching the Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme 2.0 for Rua das Estalagens. With the principle of "integrating the old with the new," the initiative encourages Macao entrepreneurs to submit business proposals that align with the street's revitalisation strategy, further boosting the district's economic strength. Applicants must commit to a self-invested initial operating capital of no less than MOP 300,000. Selected applications can receive subsidies equivalent to one to two times the amount of the self-invested capital, with a capped amount of MOP 1 million per applicant. A judging panel will assess the subsidy amount based on a comprehensive evaluation of factors, such as the creativity and market potential of the submitted proposal, and the experience of the operating team.

Meanwhile, the inaugural Shop Rebranding Programme empowers shops currently operating on Rua das Estalagens to enhance their brand appeal and elevate their operational capability, under the principle of "bridging the past into future." Applicants need to commit to a minimum self-invested capital of MOP 50,000. Selected applications can receive subsidies equivalent to one to three times the amount of the self-invested capital, capped at MOP 500,000 per applicant. The programme encompasses brand image innovation, product packaging, and storefront beautification, all designed to bolster the market competitiveness and vibrancy of the street's existing stores.

A series of free events is set to launch to support the new round of the Community Revitalization Programme, including:

• SME Training Courses (May 14): Titled "Macao SMEs: Effective Business Plan and Marketing Strategy" and "Macao SMEs: From Transformation of Traditions to Startup Innovation," these two sessions aim to help Macao enterprises enhance their marketing writing, operational knowledge, and market insights, equipping them with the necessary knowledge for the initiative;

To help international audiences better comprehend the aesthetic legacy of Macao's century-old firecracker industry, Sands China invited distinguished Professor Ung Vai Meng of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts at the Macau University of Science and Technology, who curated the firecracker exhibition at Sands Gallery in Macao, to deliver a seminar March 29 at Art Central. The seminar traced the development of the firecracker trade, focusing on the aesthetics emanating from the square-inch packaging paper, the folk symbolism and aesthetic trends behind the graphics, and how the packaging design responded to cross-cultural market demands.

The seminar was well received and sparked enthusiastic discussions on-site, connecting shared memories among audiences from Hong Kong and Macao through the genuine sharing of the speaker. The event also provided international audiences with a profound perspective into the industry's history, aesthetics, and urban memory, deepening their understanding of the cultural significance and warmth of Macao's firecracker heritage.

Participation in art tour connects the community 
To broaden public engagement with art, Sands China specially arranged a guided tour at Art Central for representatives from four NGOs in Macao: the Fuhong Society of Macau, the Macau Special Olympics, the Noah Family Mutual Aid Association, and the Richmond Fellowship of Macau. Lei draws on scientific theory as the foundation of aesthetics, transforming artificial spectra, proportional values, and geometric structures into repetitive, precise blocks of colour and surfaces of light that reflect the fluidity and changes of urban life. Leong interrogates shifting notions of value and cultural interfaces that shape identity, informed by his personal migration history. His works examine the tension and intricate relations between Macao culture and artistic essence. Bringing together more than 400 exhibits – including original manuscripts, firecracker-making tools, and packaging labels – the exhibition offers a richly layered narrative of the century-long history and cultural significance of Macao's firecracker industry – once one of the city's four major industries. The exhibition also underscores Sands Gallery's role as an international cultural portal for Macao, using artistic interpretation to reanimate this industrial memory once exported worldwide, highlighting Macao's deep cultural roots and artistic spirit.

The exhibition is jointly presented in collaboration with the Library and Faculty of Humanities and Arts of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), marking a cross-sector partnership between academia and industry. It was curated by Ung Vai Meng, distinguished professor at MUST, who has devoted three decades to the study of Macao's firecracker industry. Through systematic consolidation of academic research and rare archival materials, the exhibition is grounded in historical and scholarly foundations. Through innovative artistic transformation, the exhibition reinterprets the cultural memory of the firecracker industry – rooted in the spirit of "Made in Macao" – into participatory art experiences for the public. It also represents the first exhibition to comprehensively trace, research, and present the development of Macao's firecracker industry, further amplifying the revitalisation impact of Iec Long Firecracker Factory.

Structured in six thematic chapters, the exhibition interweaves collective memory and the evolving artistry of Macao's firecracker industry. Beginning with an immersive prologue experience, it extends through the industry's stories, the craftsmanship of artisans, historical archives, interactive experiences, and aesthetics of packaging design. It highlights both the industry's aesthetic value and practical realities involved in production, operations, transport, and export. The exhibition runs until Aug. 31, 2026, and is free to the public. It is organised by Sands China, curated by Professor Ung, and supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, with academic contributions from the Macao Museum, the Archives of Macao, and MUST.

Curator's Profile

Born in Macao, Ung Vai Meng began his early artistic training under the guidance of painter Kam Cheong Ling, studying sketching and watercolour. In 1991, he travelled to Lisbon to study at the Ar.Co arts school. He earned a Master's degree from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2002 and a Doctorate in Fine Arts from the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou in 2010. In 1999, he served as the first Director of the Macao Museum of Art. He was appointed the Head of the Cultural Activities and Recreation Department of the former Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) in 2008, and from 2010 to 2017, he served as president of the Cultural Affair Bureau of Macao. Currently, he is a Distinguished Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at MUST. His long-term dedication to the creation of contemporary art has earned him multiple awards in various art and design competitions in Macao and abroad since 1989. He is a member of the Macau Artist Society and a founding member of the Circle of the Friends of Macao's Culture, he has presented numerous solo exhibitions in Macao, Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, and Europe.

In 2019, he formed the "Yiima" art group with local artist Chan Hin Io. In the same year, they held their first major exhibition at the Berardo Collection Museum in Lisbon; in 2022, they represented the Macao SAR at the 59th Venice International Art Biennale. In 2023 and 2025, he curated large-scale contemporary art exhibitions for the 2nd and 3rd Macao International Art Biennale, respectively.

In the field of cultural heritage, Professor Ung has long engaged in the promotion and preservation of Macao's cultural heritage. He participated in the drafting of Macao's Cultural Heritage Protection Law and contributed to the restoration of the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory. Over more than three decades, he has systematically collected a large number of precious materials related to the development of Macao's fireworks industry and the Iec Long Firecracker Factory, including labels, paintings, invoices, and documents. He has donated the entire collection to the MUST library for permanent archive and public exhibition.

MACAO, Dec. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Sands China mobilised 330 team members together with volunteers from the University of Saint Joseph, sustainability nonprofit Sustaincia, Oxfam in Macau, and the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao to assemble 30,000 hygiene kits for international social enterprise Clean the World Thursday at The Venetian^® Macao's Cotai Expo. It marks the 12th consecutive year that Sands China has partnered with local social service organisations to support the Clean the World initiative.

A total of 26,000 emergency response hygiene kits will be delivered to the Philippines, while 4,000 will be distributed to 11 Macao NGOs and three charitable and educational institutions in Hong Kong. The kits provide essential hygiene supplies to families in need and promote the concept of resource recycling to younger generations.

After hotel guests check out, Sands China collects used soap for Clean the World to recycle. Through a remanufacturing process, soap is sanitised and repurposed, extending the life of hotel supplies that would otherwise be discarded as unnecessary waste. Besides soap, each kit contains shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a card with an encouraging message from Sands China and Clean the World in a reusable non-woven bag.

The Local SME Suppliers Support Programme: A Decade of SME Empowerment

As the largest integrated tourism and leisure enterprise in Macao, Sands China has long championed a development model that enables large and small businesses to thrive together, introducing a variety of effective measures to foster the steady growth of SMEs. The Local Small, Medium and Micro Suppliers Support Programme, co-launched in 2015 with the Macao Chamber of Commerce, is a landmark programme under this vision.

The programme launched as Macao's first SME-focused initiative led by a tourism and leisure enterprise, and targets three types of local businesses: small and micro suppliers, "Made in Macao" companies and Macao young entrepreneurs. It aims to support the Macao SAR government's SME policies while further strengthening Sands China's commitment to local business development. Its key projects include the F.I.T. programme, introduced in 2017, which provides financial support, invitational matching, as well as training and development to help local SME suppliers upskill and expand their business opportunities.

Since its inception, the programme has successfully deepened collaboration with local SMEs, generating remarkable results: a total of MOP 119.4 billion in procurement, with local procurement accounting for 83 percent, involving 4,700 SMEs.

Tuesday's event unveiled the programme's 10th anniversary booklet – outlining a decade of development and success stories – intended to inspire the city's SMEs to attain greater achievements.

Supported by the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), and coordinated by the Sands Resorts Incubation Centre, the Nov. 10-14 trip was aimed at promoting the long-term growth of Macao's technological innovation industry and fostering industry exchange between Macao and Portugal through a variety of activities and opportunities.

The trip's 38-member delegation comprised representatives from 25 DSEDT-certified Macao enterprises, Macao startups incubated within the National Co-working Space scheme, and the organising entities. The visit gave all a valuable opportunity to gain exposure to emerging trends, technologies and industry insights, to exchange ideas with industry pioneers, and to explore how Lisbon's tech and innovation ecosystem can benefit the integrated resort and technology industries in Macao, yielding fruitful results.

This year, the summit drew more than 71,000 visitors from 157 countries, demonstrating its global influence and giving delegates an opportunity to gain knowledge of advanced technology and forge connections with their counterparts.

Macao's technology research industrial park currently under planning will be positioned as a launchpad for the Chinese mainland's high-quality tech enterprises to expand overseas, a service hub for cutting-edge international tech projects to establish a presence, and a local base for integration of industry, academia, and research. This will further enhance Macao's own capacity for technological innovation and accelerate its economic transformation and upgrading through innovation-driven development.

The itinerary began with the Web Summit, the world's largest technology conference, held annually in Lisbon to bring together the world's leading experts, innovators, business executives and investors. The Macao delegation attended keynote speeches, masterclass sharing sessions, and forums on artificial intelligence and robotics, exploring cutting-edge technologies and industry applications and connecting with global tech leaders in the process.

A Technology Business Networking Forum hosted by Sands China promoted cooperation and innovation within the technology industry, connecting Macao enterprises with each other and their industry counterparts in Lisbon. The curated networking event featured presentations, panel discussions, and a networking dinner. By sharing experiences, discussing trends and showcasing technologies, it provided a communication platform for delegates to expand their networks and find potential cooperation opportunities.

The nine-panellist forum was composed of four Portuguese enterprises and five tech companies from Macao. Among them were Macao enterprises Vastcom and AKL, who had both participated in last year's inaugural Lisbon trip; they joined a panel discussion with Rui Falcão, co-founder and CEO of COREangels, to share their experiences and achievements. Additionally, three Macao companies and two from Portugal gave presentations that showcased their business models, opening up opportunities for collaboration.

Paulo Rios de Oliveira, executive board member of the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency (AICEP), attended the forum and expressed strong support: "I am pleased to join you on behalf of AICEP and to contribute to this shared effort of building bridges and creating opportunities for innovation and business partnership. The delegation made structured visits to Portuguese enterprises, where they gained an in-depth understanding of innovative models and practical experiences, established connections, and promoted exchange and cooperation:

• Bhout – Developer of a smart punching bag powered by AI and real-time performance analytics, creating gamified fitness experiences for gyms, hotels, and cooperations.
• Lipolis – Lisbon's innovation hub supporting startups and established companies in technology and health sectors with programmes for business acceleration, training, and networking.

Finally, Sands China hosted a Concrete Opportunities Workshop, engaging all delegates in collaborative discussions on opportunities for innovation. It featured Manuel Tanger, faculty member in Disruption, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Singularity University Portugal. He introduced the innovation landscape in Lisbon, provided insights on working with startups, and guided participants on a collaborative exploration to map out innovation opportunities and determine next steps.

The Macao Technological Innovation Exploration in Lisbon is part of Sands China's support of the Macao SAR government's promotion of the long-term and sustainable development of smart tourism and high-tech industries. NBA stars join forces to spread compassion through basketball

MACAO, Oct. 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The final showdown of The NBA China Games 2025 took the court Sunday at The Venetian Arena. Alongside the games, the "NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week" wrapped up a fun and meaningful week of community outreach events. Running Oct. 8-12, the five-day initiative built on the excitement of the major international sports event to bring together diverse local communities in Macao. More than 2,200 volunteers and community members participated, including the Sands Cares Ambassadors.

Jointly organised by NBA Cares and Sands Cares, the community impact week fostered compassion and interaction through a series of inclusive and engaging activities. These included a basketball exchange at a local school, distributing boxed lunches in the community, a community basketball carnival, and the "Her Time to Play" clinic. NBA Legends such as Mitch Richmond, Tim Hardaway, Yao Ming, Shawn Marion, and Deron Williams, alongside current players from the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets, used basketball as a bridge to extend NBA Cares' community spirit to Macao, creating a positive impact across the city.

Events of the "NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week"

The community impact week kicked off Oct. 8 with a youth basketball exchange, where NBA Legend Mitch Richmond and NBA coaches provided basketball training and mentorship to 200 students from Lou Hau High School, together with 12 coaches and students from NBA Cares' "Her Time to Play" initiative who travelled to Macao from rural Guizhou and Inner Mongolia. Richmond and Dr. Wong donated basketballs and training equipment to the school on behalf of NBA and Sands China, supporting the continued development of its basketball programme. The event concluded with an exciting five-on-five skills challenge.

An official tip-off event on Oct. 9 at The Venetian Arena was attended by Adam Silver, NBA commissioner; Yao Ming, Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer and chairman of the Yao Foundation; Patrick Dumont, president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp.; Dr. Wong; Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd.; and Dave Sun, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Sands China Ltd. and managing director of Venetian Macau Limited. Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets players led a basketball clinic for over 60 participants, including students from Lou Hau High School, Sheng Kung Hui Choi Kou School (Macau), and Yuet Wah College Macau, and the "Her Time to Play" coaches and students. Together with Sands Cares Ambassadors, they packed goodie bags and health kits to distribute in the local community.

The third event – a boxed lunch distribution initiative – on Oct. 10 featured NBA Legend Tim Hardaway, Grant Chum, the "Her Time to Play" coaches, volunteers from the Yao Foundation, and Sands Cares Ambassadors. They visited the Fuhong Society of Macau's Pou Choi Centre, where they distributed boxed lunches and health kits to 200 local residents in need – sending warmth and compassion to the community.

The community basketball carnival took place Oct. 11 in the NBA House at The Venetian^® Macao, welcoming 120 family members of local social service organisations to enjoy interactive sports-themed games and exciting performances. NBA Legend Shawn Marion shared some basketball fun with participants and Sands Global Ambassador David Beckham came to support the event. They shared their training tips and experience with girls' basketball team members from Pui Ching Middle School Macau and Keng Peng School, and with the "Her Time to Play" students and coaches, encouraging them to pursue their dreams. The event culminated in an exciting five-on-five friendly skills challenge, marking a perfect conclusion to the community impact week.

MACAO, Sept. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Hosted by the Asian Film Awards Academy, International Film Camp (IFC) 2025 officially announced its eight winning short film projects at its closing ceremony and awards presentation at The Londoner Macao^® Monday. The successful initiative, now in its second year, has strived to nurture and empower the next generation of Asian filmmakers.

International Film Camp 2025 was organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy with the patronage of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDAHK), the Film Development Fund (FDF) of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and Sands China Ltd., with Shaw Studios as the official post-production partner.

IFC 2025 invited world-class film professionals to mentor 18 young filmmakers who are aspiring to develop careers in the film industry. Participants hail from eight Asian countries and regions: mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, and Kyrgyzstan. They created short film projects on the theme "My Best Friend" and honed their ideas through masterclasses, seminars, and one-on-one mentoring. Eight filmmakers were chosen by a panel of experts based on their presentations, each receiving HKD 300,000 in funding to produce their short films. The Asian Film Awards Academy will provide mentorship for selected films and promote them at various international film festivals, with Shaw Studios assisting with professional post-production work.

International Film Camp 2025 took place Sept. 11-15 at The Venetian^® Macao and focused on creative storytelling and the practices of the film industry. Through artistic exchanges, the camp sought to enrich the creative potential of the participants, increase their knowledge of the film industry, build connections in the business, and strengthen their practical skills – in order to lay a solid foundation for reaching their career goals.

Many of the short films funded by last year's camp were successfully selected for international film festivals, making their mark on the international film scene. This year's camp received an enthusiastic response, and the quality of the scripts and creative proposals submitted by applicants was exceptionally high. As a result, camp organisers increased the number of accepted applicants from 16 to 18, giving more participants the opportunity to learn from international filmmakers. During the camp, they exchanged ideas and experiences with their peers and participated in courses covering directing, scriptwriting, funding, distribution, post-production and pitching, gaining an understanding of the core knowledge and skills required of filmmakers. Furthermore, they received one-on-one professional mentoring from film veterans, attended masterclasses, and presented their short film projects to a professional panel of experts to compete for funding.

This year's camp boasted an exceptional faculty, with renowned Hong Kong filmmaker John Chong as chief mentor. Chong has made over 100 films, including "Cloud Atlas," "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," "Initial D," the "Infernal Affairs" series, and "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In." Other instructors included veteran directors and producers Roger Garcia, Anthony Chen, Chan Hing Kai, Mabel Cheung, Brillante Mendoza, and Meng Xie. At a masterclass held before the closing ceremony, renowned Hong Kong director, screenwriter, and producer Stanley Kwan shared his career and creative journey, leaving attendees deeply inspired.

The annual awards recognise exceptional and innovative tourism initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, and are among of the most sought-after accolades in the industry. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has been the official sponsor since 1995, as a contribution to help foster a sustainable tourism industry in the region. This international recognition not only affirms Sands China's efforts in community revitalisation, but also highlights the company's positive impact on preserving and promoting Macao's cultural heritage in the local community.

An initiative of Sands China's community revitalisation programme, "In Search of Its Roots" was published under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government and fully supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau. The project was led and produced by Sands China, in collaboration with a dedicated team of local cultural and artistic professionals, including the Macao Artist Society, author Siguo Chen, and illustrator Shirley Lu. Every aspect of the publication – from interviewing, translating and editing to photography, illustrations, printing and layout – was carried out by local professionals. The project brought together the strength of the Macao community to tell the story of Rua das Estalagens through the voices of its people. The author conducted in-depth interviews with neighbourhood associations, merchants, and residents, capturing vivid oral histories that portray the street's past characters, historical moments, and treasured cultural anecdotes. The book serves as a lasting record of Rua das Estalagens, paying tribute to the unsung heroes who shaped Macao's past and inviting both locals and visitors to rediscover the street's historical evolution. Sands China has carried out its community revitalisation programme in collaboration with the Macao SAR government since September 2023. In April 2024, the company took one of the first steps in the programme by launching the Community Revitalisation Series – Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens to support the development of local businesses and boost the neighbourhood's economy. By upholding the company's business philosophy of supporting local small and medium-sized enterprises, the programme encouraged local businesses to settle on Rua das Estalagens under the theme of "Reshape. Rejuvenate. Reimagine," which helped the street revive its unique historical and cultural value and regain its past vibrancy. From the programme's 600 participants and 120 eligible applications, seven projects were selected. Six of the businesses have officially opened for business on Rua das Estalagens, and the seventh is expected to open in early September – injecting energy into the area through a platform for ambitious young entrepreneurs to realise their dreams.

Beyond supporting new entrepreneurs, Sands China's revitalisation efforts have also benefited long-standing traditional businesses. Several historic storefronts were beautified by local artists in a partnership between Sands China and the Macau Artist Society, aiming to gradually create a new ecosystem in the area. The shopfronts' new imaginative designs highlight the characteristics of the shops and resonate with the history of the street and the city.

Nine international artists reinterpret Sesame Street characters to create debut artworks

MACAO, July 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Sands China unveiled two themed exhibitions Tuesday as part of Macao International Art Biennale 2025: the Special Exhibition "Dopamine: Fountain of Happiness" at The Venetian^® Macao, showcasing exquisite artworks crafted by internationally renowned contemporary artists in collaboration with Sesame Street, and the Collateral Exhibition "Beyond the Frame: International Contemporary Masterpieces" at Sands Gallery. Special Exhibition "Dopamine: Fountain of Happiness"

"Dopamine: Fountain of Happiness" at The Venetian Macao aims to rekindle happiness through the power of dopamine aesthetics, which centres on vivid colours, boundless imagination, and the expression of positive emotions. This vibrant showcase features nine outstanding artists from Asia, Europe and the United States: Craig & Karl, Bibi Lei, GRAFFLEX, Hei Lok, Ilya Milstein, Jun Oson, Jonni Cheatwood, and Song Zhou. The artists have reinterpreted globally renowned Sesame Street characters to craft original artworks debuting at Art Macao 2025.

Extending Macao's curatorial vision of 'Art + City,' the exhibition is set against the picturesque architectural façade of The Venetian Macao. The artists have reinterpreted globally renowned Sesame Street characters – intertwining them with ancient Roman mythology and the striking palette of dopamine art, each with their own artistic flare. The result is a series of art pieces created exclusively for Macao, bringing art into genuine encounters with the public in a cross-medium, cross-temporal, and cross-cultural artistic journey. Collateral Exhibition "Beyond the Frame: International Contemporary Masterpieces"

Running simultaneously with the Special Exhibition, this exhibition at Sands Gallery features six of the invited artists, who have undertaken a collective exploration of how artistic boundaries are being redefined in today's global context. It encourages participation, provokes thought, and creates encounters that draw the viewer directly into a genuine dialogue with artistic expression.

As one of Macao's international cultural portals, Sands Gallery continues to fulfil its role as a platform for "exchange, mutual inspiration, and elevation" with this exhibition, welcoming Bibi Lei, Song Zhou, Jun Oson, GRAFFLEX, Ilya Milstein, and Jonni Cheatwood to present more than 60 of their classic and new works that go beyond passive observation.

On July 26, local contemporary artist Bibi Lei presented her first-ever The Home of Flower Energy Swirls Workshop at The Parisian^® Macao's Qube Kingdom children's play zone. She guided the attending families to create their own "Home of Flower Energy Swirls" using her unique hands-on painting method by directly touching the paint, centred around the theme of "home," helping participants establish close connections through art.
