HONG KONG, March 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Swiss Haute Horology brand Audemars Piguet celebrated the unveiling of their brand new lounge at Art Basel Hong Kong, with a special evening reception on Wednesday, 23 March 2016. The late night party was attended by over 500 guests, including Olivier Audemars, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Audemars Piguet, David von Gunten, CEO Greater China of Audemars Piguet, Tim Sayler, Chief Marketing Officer of Audemars Piguet, and with the special appearance of renowned actress and film producer, Sandra Ng. Taking inspiration from the ice formations to represent the passing of time, the new Audemars Piguet lounge was created by the New York based award-winning designer Sebastian Errazuriz. The innovative lounge is a perfect combination of contemporary art and watchmaking craftsmanship, which Sandra also visited prior attending the party.

Sandra Ng especially paid a visit to the Audemars Piguet lounge at Art Basel 2016, where she had the opportunity to view the brand’s intricately crafted openworked watches and exquisite diamond-set high jewellery pieces and experienced the snowy winter design by designer Sebastian Errazuriz.

Olivier Audemars, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Audemars Piguet, commented, "Audemars Piguet was delighted to announce the extension of our global partnership with Art Basel in December 2015. We have always sought inspirations from the world of art, and the brand new lounge concept is a perfect example. The intertwining connection of fine watchmaking and contemporary art has become stronger by year."

Guests were welcomed to the exclusive party held across two floors at Duddell's, to celebrate Audemars Piguet's activities at 2016 Art Basel's show in Hong Kong. The venue was decorated with an immersive setting and animation wall, echoing the lounge design and offering the guests to experience the snowy winters of Audemars Piguet's origin of Le Brassus.

Prior to arriving the party, renowned actress Sandra Ng paid a visit to the Audemars Piguet lounge, where she had the opportunity to view the brand's intricately crafted openworked watches and exquisite diamond-set high jewellery pieces. She also enjoyed the minute-repeating masterpieces displayed in the specially designed soundproof room.

The new lounge of Audemars Piguet in the Collectors Lounge at the Art Basel Hong Kong is inspired by the formations of ice and snowy winters in Le Brassus. Using water and ice as the fundamental design elements, Errazuriz hopes the lounge offers a tranquil environment for the visitors to reflect and think about the passing of time. The space also showcases outstanding visuals by photographer Dan Holdsworth, redefining the assembly of topography and morphology.

About the Audemars Piguet Art Commission

The Audemars Piguet Art Commission supports artists in the creation of works of exceptional complexity, precision and experiential impact on an ongoing, annual basis. The commissioned art works are overseen by an annual guest curator and selected by an international jury. They are presented to the public to coincide with Art Basel's edition in Miami Beach, and subsequently where possible, at a public art institution. As part of the Commission, Audemars Piguet provides to the invited artist the necessary resources and secures access to advanced tools, craft expertise, or sophisticated technology to realize important new creative projects.

To coincide with Art Basel in Basel 2015, Audemars Piguet unveiled the first work for the inaugural Audemars Piguet Art Commission. Swiss artist and composer Robin Meier was selected as the first artist for the Audemars Piguet Art Commission and worked with the commission's renowned guest curator, Marc-Olivier Wahler on the production of a major new artwork. Meier's large-scale installation focused on the principles of order in nature. Synchronicity explored the natural phenomena of how fireflies found in remote parts of the world flash bioluminescent light in unison. Following the Audemars Piguet Art Commission, Meier's work Synchronicity was shortlisted for 17th Fondation d'entreprise Ricard Prize, Paris.

At Art Basel in Hong Kong in 2015, Audemars Piguet announced Ruijun Shen as the guest curator for the Audemars Piguet Art Commission 2016. In early 2016, Audemars Piguet announced Sun Xun as the second artist for the Audemars Piguet Art Commission. Considered one of China's most talented young artists, his artistic practice combines meticulous craftsmanship with stylistic experimentation not limited to any one medium. Sun Xun will work alongside the second guest curator Ruijun Shen of the Audemars Piguet Art Commission, on a major new work that will be unveiled at Art Basel in Miami Beach 2016.
