SHANGHAI, Sept. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics, a business unit of DowDuPont Materials Science, announced today that its new product, Enhanced Expanded Polyethylene (EPE) foam solution has received a technology award for the second time this year. EPE foam solution received the Innovation Technology Award at the inaugural China E-Commerce Packaging Pioneer Awards, demonstrating excellence in innovation, sustainability and reduction of logistics-related losses.
Jointly presented by M.Success Media Group and the International E-commerce Packaging Committee, the award platform strives to recognize technologies and solutions by companies or individuals who have made a significant contribution to the packaging component of the e-commerce industry. The judges evaluated over ninety nominations to shortlist around ten recipients who were given a range of awards -- Innovation Technology Award, Excellent Activity Awards, Pioneer Figure/Team Award - each receiving the distinguished committee's endorsement for its effort in bridging the gap between the growing needs of the e-commerce industry and the limited packaging solutions available currently.

Developed in Asia Pacific, the innovative EPE technology from Dow improves the integrity of the packaging while cutting down the consumption of raw material per unit packaging by 10-15%, streamlining the packaging substantially. DOWTM LDPE 450E and ELITETM LLDPE blends are 20% stronger and deliver almost twice the tear strength of standard EPE resin.
Foamed EPE planks using Dow's advanced technology also enable merchants to reduce the number of layers needed, for instance, decreasing from five-six to three-four while still maintaining the integrity of the packaging. The reduction in material results in savings on space and transportation costs, hence benefiting the environment by lowering energy consumption and reducing the amount of packaging diverted to landfills.
