MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the agronomic predictive analytics market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Iteris, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITI) with the 2016 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation. Iteris has the potential to revolutionize predictive analytics in the North American agricultural industry with its adaptive, machine learning-based platform, ClearAg®. The solution delivers weather, water, soil and crop growth information, along with agronomic data modeling capabilities.

While most predictive analytics companies provide only applications, Iteris has gone the extra mile to develop an open and extensible platform. The ClearAg Platform not only has the capability to integrate sensor networks through its Internet of Things (IoT) interface, but also can run proprietary agronomic models, such as crop pest, nutrient or disease models, developed by third parties.

Using the ClearAg Platform, the end user can generate highly specific and proprietary information for business purposes. The ClearAg Platform and ClearAg Mobile applications are available on a worldwide basis; this global capability is critical because stringent data protection laws in some countries do not encourage sharing of information across country borders. Iteris has already set up data centers in North America and Europe, with planned sites in Asia and South America.

"The ClearAg Platform's most distinct feature is its design," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Jabez Mendelson. "It has been designed to function as an open platform for use in different applications, across a wide range of end users, from farmers and agronomists, to crop protection companies, research associations, and allied providers.  Critically, ClearAg is also a learning platform which uses feedback from both sensors and human users to improve the quality and accuracy of its products over time."

Additionally, ClearAg improves the sustainability of crops by continuously monitoring their health and nutrition content. The product reduces underlying growers' operational expenditure on herbicides, pesticides, and supplemental nutrients, and can increase the yield of the farming operation. It facilitates these multiple agribusiness services by featuring well-defined restful application programming interfaces (APIs), supporting both native and Web-based applications.

Iteris' ClearAg Platform can be integrated with end-users' Web portal or Web applications with very little programming. ClearAg-based solutions, founded on scalable, Cassandra data services with content and services exposed across well-formed APIs, offer uncompromised performance and efficiency. This enables users to achieve economies of scale throughout their national or global operations. The system makes available historical weather and soil information dating back to 1980, real-time and high-precision agronomic information, and predictive analytics, allowing users to make rapid decisions in historical context.

Iteris recently developed a grower analytics application—ClearAg Mobile—which presents full cropping season grower analytics in an easy-to-use, easy-to-understand format. ClearAg Mobile provides international language support, enhancing the scope of the product's global acceptance. ClearAg Mobile has been built with offline processing capability for applications in remote areas or countries where wireless services are inadequate. Powered by the ClearAg Platform, users can use ClearAg Mobile to document the specific weather and soil conditions, and crop growth stages to obtain compliance certifications.

"The ClearAg platform is useful not only when using crop protection chemicals, but it also benefits biome applications and solutions with its high-precision, global, soil information," noted Mendelson. "Using this platform, scientists developing micro-biome products that occur naturally in the soil layer can gain a better understanding of the performance of their products in the context of both the crop and the environment."

Overall, Iteris has demonstrated commitment to technology development with the introduction of its leading-edge ClearAg® Platform, thereby raising the bar for innovation in the agronomic predictive analytics market.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated uniqueness in developing and leveraging new technologies, which significantly impacts both the functionality and the customer value of the new products and applications. The award recognizes the significant R&D spend toward innovation, its relevance to the industry, and the positive impact on brand perception.

Frost & Sullivan's Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for outstanding achievement in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and product development.
