SHANGHAI, June 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- June 5th is World Environment Day, a UN sponsored initiative to raise awareness to take positive environmental action. This year the theme in China is to "Improve Environmental Quality to Achieve Green Development". CSA Group, a leading standards development organization and a global provider of testing and certification services, offers some tips for office workers to lower their impact on the environment and support a more sustainable world.

Travel Green, and use public transit

Traditional gasoline powered vehicles are one of the biggest contributors of carbon emissions. Using public transit, riding your bike or walking to work are excellent ways to reduce or eliminate pollution, get some exercise and help clear the air. If driving is the only way to get there, share a ride. Car-pooling is another great way to reduce the numbers of cars on the road.

Plant some trees, and green-up your workspace

Trees and plants are natural consumers of carbon and producers of oxygen. Planting more trees not only makes your environment greener, but it helps to clean the air. Having a selection of potted plants inside your office or home has the same effect and are a great office decoration.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in office

Reducing the amount of waste we produce is one of the best ways to help the environment.

  • Look for products that have little or no packaging; bring reusable water bottles and pack your lunch in reusable containers.
  • Use cloth bags instead of plastic or paper.
  • Don't print out items at work unless absolutely necessary and encourage others to think of the environment before printing.
  • When purchasing a product, look for materials that can be recycled or products made from recycled items.
  • Make sure you sort all your waste and recycle where possible.

Bring a reusable lunchbox instead of disposable chopsticks and containers

Using a reusable lunchbox instead of disposable chopsticks, containers and takeaway foods helps to reduce waste and is friendlier for the environment. Biodegradable lunch containers are another option to lower waste.
