Kuala Lumpur Is the Most Affordable City in the World for Students

Chinese Students Benefit from Quality Education, Holistic Student Experience and a Cosmopolitan Lifestyle, all at an Affordable Cost, when Studying in Malaysia

BEIJING, April 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Malaysia is ranked the 12th most preferred education destination in the world (UNESCO 2014) and its capital city, Kuala Lumpur is ranked the Most Affordable City for Students (QS Best Student Cities Survey). There are over 9,000 Chinese students studying for PhD, Masters, Degree and Diploma programmes in Malaysia.

"Malaysia, with its quality programmes, reasonable tuition fee, lower cost of living and coupled with geographical and cultural proximity, is the ideal higher education destination for Chinese students," said Mohd Yazid Abd Hamid, Chief Executive Officer of Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).

EMGS is participating in the China International Education Exhibition Tour (CIEET) 2017 in Chongqing (The Westin Liberation Square) on 6 April and in Guangzhou (Dongfang Hotel) on 9 April. Chinese students are encouraged to meet with EMGS and universities from Malaysia to explore higher education opportunities in Malaysia.

There are over 6,000 courses and almost 300 higher education institutions (HEIs) to choose from. For an international certification, students can enroll in the six British, three Australian and one Chinese university (Xiamen) which have branch campuses in Malaysia and enjoy at least 30% savings from lower tuition fee and lower cost of living. Colleges in Malaysia offer twinning programmes and some leading universities in Malaysia offers joint degree programmes with reputable foreign partner universities. Such programmes may allow students to study in two campuses in two countries and graduate with dual certification from both institutions or a certification from the foreign partner university.

"Malaysia has established Engineering programmes and is part of the Washington Accord. Our programmes are recognised in the UK, USA, Australia, Japan, Canada and many other countries. Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Chemical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering programmes offered by Malaysian universities UM, UTM, UKM and USM rank within top 100 in the world (QS University Rankings by Subject 2016).

"We also offer established business, accounting and finance programmes and a wide range of the arts and creative programmes covering multimedia, graphic design, and broadcasting. Malaysia is also a good destination for Chinese students who seek a professional degree in English Language, or shorter English courses," Mohd Yazid said.

A 3-year degree programme cost a minimal USD9,000. An Australian, American or British Degree Transfer Programme will cost USD7,000-12,000 for two years of study in Malaysia. For USD500 a month on accommodation, food and other expenses students can live from comfortably.

Students from China can apply to study in Malaysia with the Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate and Gaokao. With a Level 6 score, students can get admitted into a degree programme. Students need to apply directly to the college or university and upon receiving a Letter of Offer from the institution, students may apply online for a Student Visa with EMGS. The Visa Approval Letter (VAL) will be issued within 14 working days if all documents are complete.
