Changes Tend to Forget the Importance of Communication

JAKARTA, Indonesia, Oct. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Unika Atma Jaya School of Communication will hold the 3rd International Conference on Corporate and Marketing Communication (ICCOMAC) with the theme "Managing Communication in a Disruptive Era". In its third year, ICCOMAC focuses on the changes occurring due to disruption -- fast and abrupt changes that are mostly unpredicted.

"In early 2016, the World Economic Forum stated that this disruptive era is the Fourth Industry Revolution, which has created a paradigm shift on how we work and live," said ICCOMAC chairman, Nia Sarinastiti.

"This shift provides a key role for professionals in communication. Due to the changes, efforts to continuously engage with stakeholders using various technology applications needs to be fast and effective without overlooking ethical concerns. Nevertheless, industries are content to focus more on the process rather than the communication itself," continued Sarinastiti. "This conference aims to discuss issues of disruption from various angles of challenges and opportunities, which hopefully will provide lessons learned and input on how to manage communication in businesses and media."

But it is never an easy ride for the disruptors either - their progress is marked with significant communications challenges. However much of a following a disruptor builds with consumers early on, their radical business models tend to prompt regulatory scrutiny.

ICCOMAC 2016 will have plenary speakers who have focused their study and interest on how new technologies are being used to communicate and how it has changed social aspects due to disruptions today. The plenary and keynote speakers are as follows:

  • Prof. Dr. Rainer Janz (Westphalian University of Applied Sciences, Institute for Journalism and Public Relations -- JPR-, Germany) on Consequences of New Media for Society
  • Prof. Dr. Maurice Vergeer (Department of Communication at Radboud University -- The Netherlands) on International Crisis Communication: Trends, International Crises, Research Directions
  • Prof. Marco M. Polo (Communication and Journalism Department dan Director for University Advancement from De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines) on Stakeholder Engagement in the Social Media Landscape: Prospects and Possibilities
  • Dr. Dorien Kartikawangi, Head of the School of Communication at UNIKA Atma Jaya on Disruptive Innovation a Fantasy for Organizations?

Currently there are 35 participants who will discuss three key topics in the areas of corporate communication, marketing communication, and media, ethics and policy.

ICCOMAC is supported by PERHUMAS, ASPIKOM, ISKI, PR Newswire, PR Indonesia, and Kartika Kusuma gallery.

The School of Communication at Unika Atma Jaya was established in 2009 with the aim to produce graduates who become professionals with the ability to develop strategic and practical concepts based on ethics and international insights.
