FREMONT, Calif., Nov. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- TUV Rheinland, a leading international testing service provider for quality and safety, today announced the Thread Group ("Thread") has selected the firm as an official Authorized Testing Lab for network layer solutions in the smart home and beyond. Under terms of the agreement, Thread will use TUV Rheinland's IoT testing facilities to test and certify products in Silicon Valley (Pleasanton and Fremont, Calif.), Europe (Cologne, Germany), and several locations across Asia (Seoul, Yokohama, Taipei and Shenzhen).

"Thread is committed to accelerating market adoption for connected products and solutions in the home and commercial markets with secure, reliable and easy-to-use solutions at the networking layer," said Grant Erickson, president of the Thread Group. "We're excited to have such a versed and knowledgeable strategic partner as TUV Rheinland on board to help us grow and reach our development partners in their local geographies served by TUV Rheinland."

Thread is an IP-based mesh network that efficiently addresses the networking layer -- the routing, commissioning, and security elements -- so that hundreds of connected products have a way to speak to one another and to the internet while maintaining data security and integrity. Thread offers several technological advantages over other wireless standards in that it contains no single point of failure, provides connectivity that's easy to setup and use, and consumes minimal power. Battery-operated devices can be installed and operate reliably over long periods of time, which is a critical feature for many use cases.

"TUV Rheinland is thrilled at the opportunity to work with Thread as it executes on its vision for ubiquitous connectivity for essential applications in the home and beyond," said Stefan Kischka, Director of wireless IoT testing at TUV Rheinland. "We have actively contributed to Thread since its early discussions. The mesh networking concept is uniquely suited to push the connected products and solutions market toward widescale adoption and we look forward to a successful partnership with Thread."
