2018-11-28 15:00 1864

BANGALORE, India, Nov. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- TUV Rheinland, a global leader in independent technical services announced the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has recognized its photovoltaic testing laboratory located in Bangalore, India. BIS is a Standards Development Organization (SDO) and the largest National Certification Body (NCB) for India, under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. As a BIS recognized lab, TUV Rheinland is authorized to conduct testing of solar photovoltaic modules.

The BIS recognition enables manufactures of photovoltaic products to approach TUV Rheinland for testing, in order to comply with BIS requirements, under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) and in line with the Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017. Manufacturers of PV modules, inverters and batteries are required to apply for registration from BIS following their products undergoing testing from a BIS-recognized lab. BIS then registers manufacturers under its CRS so that manufacturers can declare to their respective markets that their products conform to Indian standards.

"As a service provider with global footprints, we support the cause of safer products to consumers across the world, including India. We are proud to be associated with prestigious regulatory bodies such as BIS and to help them in their mission to provide safe, reliable and quality products to Indian markets. TUV Rheinland's state-of-the-art Photovoltaic Laboratory in Bangalore houses advanced equipment to test Solar Photovoltaic Modules, as per BIS CRS. Our lab has one of the largest capacity for BIS testing in India.  We possess the infrastructure and the required competencies to support local as well as international manufacturers in introducing their products to the Indian market," said Joerg Althaus, Manager, Solar Business, India/Middle East and Africa, TUV Rheinland.

"Our laboratories operate cutting-edge testing equipment to test products accurately and in accordance with the BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme. PV Modules are tested for design qualification according to IS 14286 and for safety requirements according to IS/IEC 61730-1&2. Evaluations include criteria such as electrical, mechanical and fire safety requirements," stated Kamalaksha C S, Manager, TUV Rheinland Solar Business, India. He added, "TUV Rheinland is dedicated to support the Indian government's successful and rapidly growing compliance scheme in India. We have steadily expanded our testing infrastructure that operates 24/7 to cater to multiple projects."

Besides testing products against BIS requirements, TUV Rheinland solar experts in India are active as Independent Engineers and Technical Advisors for PV investors and developers, and help secure quality through Supply Chain Services for EPCs.
