Youth Month 2018: Indonesia's Ministry of Youth and Sports Gathered Tens of Thousands of Youths to Initiate Innovations in Indonesia

Entitled "Bangun Pemuda, Satukan Indonesia," 28,000 youths united to recite the historic "Sumpah Pemuda" pledge at the main event of Youth Expo and Festival.

JAKARTA, Indonesia, Oct. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Deputy Ministry of Youth Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenpora) invited thousands of Indonesian young achievers to unite and initiate innovation at the main event of 90th Sumpah Pemuda, entitled "Bangun Pemuda, Satukan Indonesia." Over 1,000 young achievers and 150 youth communities in Indonesia gathered on Sunday (28/10) to join the flag hoisting ceremony at the main hall of Kemenpora Senayan, Jakarta. Most of them were students and young achievers who have contributed to the academia and community in order to shape positive characters of a leader to build a movement to the nation.

On behalf of Imam Nahrawi, Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh invited all Indonesian youths to unite and initiate innovative ideas that lead to a better nation. This part of speech is being the key message of "Bangun Pemuda, Satukan Indonesia."

"The youth's hardworking efforts are essential to build a new energy for the nation. Moreover, Indonesia now experiences a demographic bonus for the younger generation. This is clearly beneficial because through their creative and innovative ideas, they will bring a brighter future for the nation," said Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, Deputy Minister of Youth Development.

During the main event, Kemenpora also invited more than 28,000 Indonesian youth to assemble at Gelanggang Olahraga Velodrome Rawamangun, on Sunday (28/10). They gathered to recite "Sumpah Pemuda's pledge" as a major milestone in building Indonesia's unity, 90 years ago.

The highlights of the main event "Youth Expo and Festival" include entrepreneurial exhibitions, talk shows, competitions, and youth carnivals from various communities across Indonesia, such as Reog Ponorogo, Kapoeira, as well as traditional dances and arts wrapped in lively costumes. To close the celebration, Kemenpora presented special performances by four Indonesian top musicians: Coklat, Kotak, Type-X, and Republik, as well as fundraising for the earthquakes in Lombok, Palu, and Donggala.   

Starting in early October, Kemenpora has initiated many youth activities in order to boost innovation and expertise for the nation's development, such as Pekan Pemuda Kreatif, Apresiasi Wirausaha Muda Berprestasi, Apresiasi Difabel Berprestasi, Pemuda Mandiri Membangun Desa (PMMD), and Kota Layak Pemuda.

All winners of these categories will be given awards on the night of Tasyakkur Sumpah Pemuda at Balai Samudera, North Jakarta, at the evening of October 29 event. One of the awards namely Pemuda Pelopor was selected by 49 young achievers in five sectors, which are: natural resources; environment and tourism; food; education; technological innovation; religion; as well as social and cultural fields.

Kemenpora asserted that these initiatives are way more than just a ceremonial. Moreover, it aims to spur young generation to pioneer positive movements and activities for their communities. "These tens of thousands' young generation will become agents of change for their communities. If there are indications of potential social insecurity, they can quickly take a role and prevent for wider social problems. Likewise, if there are children who should go to school, but they are not; they will take immediate initiatives," said Niam.
