Item-level intelligence via multi-sensor technology helps retailers achieve up to 99 percent sales floor inventory availability, increasing sales up to 25 percent

HONG KONG, June 25 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- ADT Security announced the Asian debut of its Sensormatic real-time inventory visibility solutions suite to improve retail store management. Targeted at specialty apparel and book retailers, these solutions offer them ways to know what goods they have in their stores and their quantities, all without time-consuming and error-prone manual counting of inventory. Given the item-level intelligence these solutions offer retailers, they can also determine where the goods are, whether on shelves or displays, in the back storeroom, misplaced or missing. Such capabilities can help stores raise their inventory availability from an average of 67 percent to as much as 99 percent. By avoiding out-of-stocks this way, retailers adopting this application have reported sales increases of up to 25 percent -- despite these recessionary times.

Retailers in Hong Kong, for example, can now effectively address lost sales due to inventory inaccuracies, one of their most significant forms of loss that undermines their profitability. ADT's Sensormatic real-time inventory visibility solutions incorporate the TrueVUE(TM) RFID software platform and networking products. Retailers can enhance their store environments, optimize supply chain, generate incremental revenue and achieve better customer satisfaction through:

-- Maximizing the availability of merchandise on sales floor by reducing out-of-stocks

-- Improving inventory accuracy and minimizing overstocking

-- Reducing shrink from the back room, dressing room and front exits

-- Locating the right item quickly and checking the availability of the item within the store using innovative multi-sensor technologies

"Tracking in-store inventories accurately and reducing out-of-stock situations are key challenges to retailers as these can lead to lost sales and higher operational costs," said Roger Tsang, General Manager of ADT Security, Hong Kong and Macau. "With real-time inventory visibility, retailers can reduce out-of-stocks by up to 50 percent to ensure greater product availability for their customers through accurate stock replenishments. The new Sensormatic real-time inventory visibility solutions from ADT offer retailers a complete enterprise solution using advanced multi-sensor technologies in a multi-layered approach to control shrink and optimize operations, thereby increasing profitability."

The technology market research and strategy consulting firm VDC Research Group profiled two retail pilot projects using ADT's Sensormatic item-level intelligence solutions in a white paper sponsored by Sensormatic Retail Solutions titled "Chaos in the Retail Cosmos." VDC cited some of the benefits that emerged in a pilot project undertaken by ADT with a leading European book retailer:

-- Increased inventory accuracy from 65 percent to 97.5 percent and expedited physical inventory audit process to less than four hours

-- Replenished close to 75 percent of their inventory with semi-automated inventory replenishment system

-- Enhanced store revenues by almost 15 percent compared to stores lacking the technology, thanks to an immediate order capability enabled by item-level management

VDC also reported results from a similar project undertaken by a leading European department store:

-- Decreased receiving time of all incoming shipments from one hour to just eight minutes -- an 87 percent improvement

-- Reduced physical inventory audits from one hour and a half to twenty minutes -- a 67 percent improvement

-- Updated information on shelf inventory levels every 10 minutes drastically reduced retailer's potential for stock-outs

To lower retailer deployment risks and costs that can be associated with deployments of advanced technology, ADT supports its Sensormatic solutions portfolio with comprehensive services, including consultation, system design, engineering, implementation, full post-deployment maintenance, remote diagnostics and service. If required, ADT can provide a hosted or managed RFID solution, as well.
