HONG KONG, Nov. 24, 2010 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- AECOM is pleased to announce that it recently won three Awards of Merit in the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA) annual competition. The awards were presented at the widely-attended 22nd HKILA Annual Dinner this month.
AECOM's West Kowloon Express Rail Link + Public Transport Interchange project was given the Award of Merit in the Conceptual Landscape category. The team's vision for this high-profile project was to derive a green landscape within a densely populated urban setting by creating a connective tapestry of roof gardens, urban parklands and open spaces.
38 Cherry Street, Tai Kok Tsui, Florient Rise, was one of the winning projects in the Landscape Design category. For this residential development, AECOM's project team adopted a vertical landscape strategy by producing a series of Sky Gardens in the form of hovering planes above a podium. The outcome is an attractive spatial experience that dynamically enhances the landscape environment.
AECOM's Tianjin Eco-City Waterfront project received an Award of Merit in the Landscape Planning/Research Study category. The master plan for this Ecological Metropolis proposed a wide array of innovative measures to restore ecological quality and construct different micro-habitats and a variety of green corridors.
In addition to these prizes, two Student Category awards were given to university graduates who recently joined the AECOM landscape practice: Amy Zhang and Sampson Mok.
Submitted projects could be located in Hong Kong, mainland China or overseas and were judged in terms of the clarity of the presentation and on a variety of criteria such as the originality, complexity, quality and harmony of the design.

The event included prestigious guests such as Mrs. Carrie Lam, Secretary for Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, in addition to directors from various government departments and other landscape institutes in the region. In total, 270 landscape architecture professionals attended the event, including 25 designers from AECOM's landscape team.
The HKILA was inaugurated in 1988 as the professional body for those engaged in the practice of landscape architecture in Hong Kong. The Institute promotes design excellence through its annual design awards which provide a great opportunity for landscape architects and students to receive recognition for their outstanding achievements.
