ANADIGICS Amplifier Powers New LG Chocolate(TM) Handset

2007-09-18 22:19 2174

WARREN, N.J., Sept. 18 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

ANADIGICS, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANAD) today announced that the Company is shipping production volumes of its new AWT6321R dual-band CDMA power amplifier (PA) module to LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. (LG Mobile Phones), for the new Chocolate(TM) mobile phone, currently available through Verizon Wireless.

Like the first Chocolate phones introduced last year, the new Chocolate by LG is an ultra thin slider phone with a vibrate to touch keypad. The Chocolate includes a 1.3megapixel camera, built-in music player for MP3 and WMA files, and supports both CDMA and EVDO for high speed data transmissions. Besides offering users high end media capabilities in a slimmer and lighter package, the Chocolate by LG delivers significantly longer talk time by utilizing the power-saving features of ANADIGICS HELP2(TM) technology incorporated in the AWT6321R dual-band CDMA PA.

"We are very pleased that LG has selected our AWT6321 PA module for the latest Chocolate phone," said Dr. Ali Khatibzadeh, Sr. Vice President & General Manager of ANADIGICS' Wireless Business Unit. "Our compact 3x5mm

dual-band CDMA PA requires 25% less board area compared to competitors' single-band PAs, which enables LGE to pack more multimedia features into slimmer handset designs."

The AWT6321 is one of ANADIGICS' second-generation High-Efficiency-at

Low-Power (HELP2(TM)) family of CDMA power amplifiers, which deliver low quiescent current and significantly greater efficiencies at power levels where the phone operates most of the time. HELP2 products include a built-in voltage regulator that eliminates the need for an external reference voltage and associated switches in the phone design.

"HELP2 products like AWT6321R consume up to 50% less battery power than conventional 2-state power amplifiers over the full range of powers in modern CDMA networks," said Prasanth Perugupalli, ANADIGICS' CDMA Product Line Manager. "Reducing PA current requirements makes battery power available for longer talk times and better multimedia experiences in advanced phones like the VX8550."

The AWT6321 incorporates ANADIGICS' proprietary InGaP-Plus(TM) technology for state-of-the-art reliability, temperature stability and ruggedness. It is manufactured using a material set consistent with the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
