ATERAS, a leading provider of 100% automated solutions for legacy migration and modernization, announced today that a large State Agency has chosen ATERAS to complete an enterprise-wide Assessment and to convert initial Adabas Natural applications to COBOL CICS DB2.

ATERAS uses DB-Shuttle(TM) automation technology for the Assessment and Conversion of the Databases, Data and Applications. The first phase is the Assessment which is a very detailed, targeted research and analysis of the entire mainframe application environment. Components are classified and listed in detail. All application components are inventoried and classified by language. The Assessment results in a complete understanding of the current Adabas Natural environment. After completion of the automated Assessment, ATERAS will provide a turn-key solution that will include the conversion of the data, databases, and application software.
The process will include 100% automated conversion with no required code freeze. In addition, the applications and databases will be 100% functionally equivalent including the retention of all business rules. No proprietary libraries, third party libraries or other software will be required to run, use or maintain the applications after the conversion. Due to the high level of automation, ATERAS’ rules-based conversions meet the technical and business requirements of the customer with dramatically shorter conversion times. The business reasons for this agency to migrate their Adabas Natural environment to a relational one is the need to move to IBM’s DB2 technology, eliminating the high cost of Adabas licensing and maintenance fees; and the need for greater agility at delivering new information services.
