An Opening Letter to the Media

In the days following the tragic earthquake which struck southwestern Sichuan this past Saturday, we have witnessed our chamber's members taking actions above and beyond even our high expectations. These companies - American-owned but many of which have operated in China for 20 or more - have moved swiftly to donate funds and materiel to emergency response efforts.

As these efforts continue, we are pleased to report that AmCham South China members have already donated more than RMB 100 million in cash and supplies.

We are confident that this number will continue to increase over the coming days, and are currently planning an investment mission to explore rebuilding opportunities in the most heavily-disrupted areas once emergency operations have concluded.

Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy.

Harley Seyedin
President
