Epikinonia Ltd. incorporates key OV functions into its solution, allowing airport management greater control of security, retail and gate operations

RESTON, Va. and ATHENS, Greece, Sept. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ObjectVideo®, Inc. announced today that its solution partner Epikinonia Ltd. – Greece has implemented a full video infrastructure solution at Athens International Airport (AIA.) This video analytics-enabled solution is part of AIA's Video Content Analytics (VCA) project and it is the first one of its size implemented in Greece.

With a goal to improve overall passenger experience, the AIA system employs ObjectVideo's Event Counting Suite™ for providing curbside dwell time of arriving vehicles, queue length in screening areas, dynamic waiting time and people counting in open space commercial and retail areas. AIA's Information Technology & Telecommunications Business Unit (IT&T) is now using real-time analytics data from the OV® Event Counting Suite for decision-making and operational business intelligence, e.g. time-to-gate and other applications to improve the passenger experience and increase revenue from retail.

"Athens International Airport benefits from a reliable video infrastructure solution to accurately estimate, in real-time, the number of people and vehicles in certain areas in order to provide a relaxed shopping and travelling experience for airport passengers and visitors," said Athens International Airport management.

"We are pleased with the accuracy that we achieved using OV technology, with our major success being in the high accuracy that we got from the queue length dynamic time. At this moment, this seems to be most unique way – worldwide – to provide queue waiting time calculation," said Tasos Moutzouris, general manager of Epikinonia Ltd.

"Given ObjectVideo's strong experience in airport environments, we are pleased to be a part of this innovative solution at AIA," said Warren Brown, president of ObjectVideo. "Epikinonia has done an excellent job taking VCA beyond security and designing a solution that helps increase revenue and profitability by improving the effectiveness of AIA operations."
