2012-06-11 10:00 3297

MANILA, Philippines, June 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Today, Alpha Southeast Asia revealed the results of their second annual poll to find Southeast Asia's top companies. The awards are based on tallied votes among 460 investors, pension funds, hedge funds, equity and fixed income brokers and analysts with investment interests in the Southeast Asia region. Companies in each country were ranked on their financial management, adherence to corporate governance, CSR and investor relations' strategy, transparency and disclosure.

In Philippines, the top eight companies include diversified conglomerate SM Investment Corp and Ayala Corp, predominantly real estate focused player Megaworld, rival banks BDO & BPI, telecoms players Globe Telecom and PLDT as well as consumer giant San Miguel Corp.

Jose Sio, CFO, SM Investment Corp was revered as the Best CFO in the Philippines.

Across the region, the award for Best CFO in Southeast Asia went to Jeann Low, CFO at SingTel. The award for the Best Annual Report in Southeast Asia went to Keppel Corp while the award for the Strongest Commitment to Sustainable Energy in Southeast Asia went to Thai Oil.

A key distinguishing feature of the poll is that it not only names investor favourites, but adventurously publishes names of companies that are perceived to have "Poor Management Access & IR" by this same group of investors. In the Philippines, Lepanto, Metrobank and Security Bank Corp. were noted for their poor and unpredictable investor relations' strategy.

Results for the Philippines are as follows (listed in alphabetical order):

Most organized investor relations (IR): BDO, Megaworld, SMIC

Best Senior Management IR Support: BPI, Globe Telecom, PLDT

Strongest Adherence to Corporate Governance: Ayala Corp., Megaworld, SMIC

Most Consistent Dividend Policy: Globe Telecom, PLDT, San Miguel Corp.

Best Strategic CSR: Ayala Corp, San Miguel Corp., SMIC

Most Improved IR: San Miguel Corp.

Best CFO in the Philippines: Jose Sio, CFO, SM Investment Corp.
