CCID Consulting: China's Computer Component Market Enjoys Steady Growth

2008-11-07 17:39 1184

BEIJING, Nov. 7 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- CCID Consulting, China's leading research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider, and the first Chinese consulting firm listed in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Stock Exchange: HK08235), recently released its article on China's computer component.

In 2008Q3, the market was able to walk out of the shadow cast by the natural disasters of early and mid 2008. Despite marketing efforts during the Summer Olympics, sales volume in Beijing was weak, but judging from the national market, the student market sector was able to maintain rapid growth. Compared with 2008Q2, China's computer component market has noticeably recuperated, with sales volume of COU reaching 1.958 million sets, up 3.5% over 2008Q2.

In 2008Q3, the most influential event in the component market was AMD splitting its manufacturing business. After experienced eight successive quarters of loss and also affected by global economic crisis, AMD officially announced to split its chop manufacturing business on Oct. 7. The official name of the new company is not determined and is to be temporarily called The Foundry Company, the official name has not been determined. This chop manufacturing company will continue to produce processor chips for AMD, but it will also look for other manufacturers' orders. AMD will focus on chip's design and marketing.

Starting from IDM mode, AMD once followed Intel's business mode. With AMD's mode change, AMD can fully develop new products, without having to spend several billion dollars on producing. The new company will reduce new products' market risk, meanwhile, it could reduce AMD's cost. After restructuring, AMD will take a series of production and contracting business, such as foundry, OEM. As foundry requires the highest investment in the industry and has a high output, the scale effect is obvious. Currently, with the upgrade of semiconductor manufacturing, next generation's processing technology investment will focus on $6 billion/product line. Many foundries depend on accumulations and semiconductor manufacturers' investment to acquire expansion and support, but whether the new Foundry's capital could have sustained guarantee is the key to decide its future. In 2007, when VIA's deputy protocol with Intel was due, VIA announced its return to the CPU market. Recently, NVIDIA also joins in CPU chip battle. Although these two companies have limited threat to AMD at present, based on their low power consumption and high performance price ratio, they will occupy part of the low-end market. AMD poses threat to Intel, but AMD still needs to keep abundant competitiveness at the aspect of products' upgrade.
