2008-09-22 18:11 1490

BEIJING, Sept. 22 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- CCID Consulting, China’s leading research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider, and the first Chinese consulting firm listed in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Stock Exchange: HK08235), recently release an article on China’s mobile storage market.

CCID Consulting’s July 2008 data shows that in 2008Q2, benefiting from the Olympic Games, China’s mobile storage market enjoyed a period of stable growth. Sales volume reached 5.6 million sets and sales revenue reached 1.08 billion Yuan.

CCID Consulting considers that China’s mobile storage market has following four characteristics:

1. Steady Market Growth

Major manufacturers included Olympic elements so as to stimulate consumers’ demands.

CCID Consulting’s data shows that China’s flash memory disk market grew rapidly in 2008Q2; sales volume reached 4.9 million sets, up 88.1% year-on-year; sales revenue reached 569 million Yuan, up 11.5% year-on-year. Because of cabinet volume, portability and durableness, flash memory disk attracts more and more consumers’ attention. Its growth rate in 2008Q2 is higher than that of 2008Q1.

2. Flash Memory Disk: Aigo is still Champion, Competition between Foreign and Domestic Manufacturers is Heating up

In 2008Q2, Aigo became a champion in the market, with a sales volume of 1.3 million sets, which accounted for 27.0% of the total market. Lenovo is the non-lagging worker: it got rid of traditional markdown promotion through launching Lenovo Fuwa and Olympic Torch flash memory disk. Lenovo accounted for 26.5% of the total market, shortening the distance between Aigo and Lenovo.

Although China’s flash memory disk market is dominated by China’s domestic manufacturers, Kingston pays more attention to IT channel sale, which drives its sales volume’s rapid growth, up 488.3% year-on-year. The competition between foreign manufacturers and China’s domestic manufacturers is heating up.

3. Mobile HD: Products Highlight Individuation and Differentiation, Lenovo Seized Olympic Games promotion

In 2008Q2, China’s mobile HD market continued to be led by famous brands: Lenovo, Aigo, Newman, Travel Star and BenQ accounted for 80% of the total market. Judging from current competition in mobile HD market, products’ individuation and differentiation are the important factors to win market share. As an Olympic global partner, Lenovo launched mobile HDs with Olympic elements, leading the way in marketing and promotion through thises “limited version” products.

4. Product Capacity Continues to Enlarge, Large Capacity is the Inevitable Trend

In 2008Q2, China’s flash memory disks’ capacity was rapidly restructured. In the flash memory disk market, 2G products become the market mainstream, which account for 48.7% of the total market. Large capacity HD is the inevitable trend. 160G products have the largest market share, which accounts for 46.6% of the total market. Products’ rapid upgrade and manufacturers’ intense manufacturers drive the average price drop, which promotes the improvement of products’ performance price ratio. But adding Olympic elements and individuation products is still seen as a good strategy. In mobile storage market, different manufacturers face the same ultimate target.
