GBA 2010 Award Winners to be announced 3 November followed by finalists' presentations at Green Building Conference 2010

HONG KONG, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- As the world is becoming increasingly aware of the environmental, social and economical impacts due to climate change, the society has a strong demand in green buildings in recent years. Stakeholders in the property and construction industry in Hong Kong are taking an active role in promoting a more sustainable built environment in moving towards a low carbon city.  Since launching in May 2010, the Green Building Award (GBA) 2010 has reached its final stage.

After more than 4 months of nomination, project screening and judging processes, two major events will soon take place to announce and recognize the winners of Green Building Award (GBA) 2010. Green Building Award 2010 Presentation Ceremony is the most anticipated highlight of GBA 2010. On the day following the award ceremony, Green Building Conference 2010 will also take place where finalists will be presenting on their award winning projects. In addition, the conference will be a platform for building professionals and overseas experts, including representatives from other green building councils, to share their experience and exchange knowledge on innovative and latest approaches on transformation towards sustainable built environment.

The Green Building Conference 2010 will celebrate the first anniversary of the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC).  HKGBC comprises four industry organisations, namely: Construction Industry Council (CIC), Business Environment Council (BEC), BEAM Society and Professional Green Building Council (PGBC). These two events are co-organised by PGBC, which was co-founded by five professional institutions, namely: The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), The Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA), The Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) and The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS).

GBA 2010 aims to provide recognition to building related projects with outstanding performance and contributions in sustainability and the environment and also to transform the mainstream market towards wider adoption of sustainable planning, design, construction, maintenance, renovation and revitalisation of buildings. This year, the theme of "Conserving for Liveable Environment -- Building toward Sustainable Development" has been adopted to reflect GBA 2010's main objectives.

With the view to promoting more holistic participation and wider support both locally and throughout the Asia Pacific region, GBA 2010 has included five categories, namely:

  • New Buildings
  • Facility Management
  • Adaptive Reuse
  • Interiors
  • Research & Planning

GBA 2010 has received overwhelming response of nominations with a total of 56 entries received from 18 cities in the Asia Pacific region. As a major biennale event in Hong Kong and the region, GBA 2010 embraces projects in Hong Kong as well as in the Asia Pacific region.

The Jury Panel of GBA 2010 is formed from a diverse group of eminent local and overseas professionals comprising of international experts, local legislative councilors, government officials, academia and leaders of professional institutions (please refer below for the full list of jurors).

GBA 2010 and the Conference are honored to have Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, GBS, JP, Secretary for Development and Mr. Edward Yau Tang-wah, JP, Secretary for the Environment to be Guests of Honor at these two major back-to-back events.

The Green Building Award Presentation ceremony will be held on 3 November 2010 at the Rotunda, third floor of One Exchange Square, Central, followed by the Green Building Conference 2010 to be held on 4 November 2010 at the AsiaWorld-Expo. The Conference is now open for public registration.
